Two months later...
I thought I should try to tell a bit about my fishing in the last days here on Kroppkärr lake.
I started up this season a couple of weeks ago...
fishing a 48 hour session and landing two mirror carp at 8,12 kg and 13,06 kg.
I then arrived in town again on saturday and started straight away to pre bait an area heavily
while fishing the first two nights on a different area to let the pre baiting
work on it's own for some days.
During the first two nights the bite alarms were completely silent and there were no fish showing themselves
or giving any kind of signs...
But then on the Sunday afternoon after the first blank night,
the conditions felt right with warmer weather and I decided to go for a stalking tour with my boat.
I soon found some decent fish moving around in shallow water and they seemed to be up for a meal,
after an hour or so I managed to hook a small stockie mirror at 4 kg.
And after this was put back, there were still fish showing themselves, seemingly unaware
of the turbulence caused by playing this fish.
I stayed still for half an hour and then noticed three good fish moving about close to the reeds on my right,
and baited up carefully next to them.
Then, the biggest of the pack took a liking to my freelined sweetcorn,
a fish called Jerkers' Linear, at 15,3 kg...
15,3 kg, freelined sweetcorn, Kroppkärrs lake 2013.
That felt good, really good!
Had this one at about 5.30 in the afternoon. Had a small stockie first at 4 kg before this one came about.
Freeline PB if you can count that, I don't know... but this fish certainly qualifies among my best catches, without a doubt.
I'm not exactly aware of any freelined carp from this lake,
but it's possible that there were certain catches a long time ago, supposedly none above the 15 kg mark though...
I'll slip you right back now.
Then I fished another blank night on the first area,
before I decided to make a move to the pre baited area instead.
Also on the monday afternoon I went out on the shallow areas to try to spot fish and
managed to hook a nice one, which then got away after about five seconds due to a hook pull...
But I moved around and soon found another fish feeding on a tight area,
and managed to present my sweetcorn just next to it, and had a pick up within a minute or so...
It was a nice fish, at 11,62 kg.
Third freelined Kroppkärr carp for me within two days,
after loosing that fish earlier in the evening,
it felt really really good to have this one out.
I thought I was filming while playing this fish as well,
but for some reason the camera was set in photo-mode.
It's not the easiest thing, to maneuver a boat, a camera, and a struggling carp...
so unfortunately there were no pictures of me playing the fish but I can tell you
it was a tense fight through reeds and this one didn't give in too easy.
Had this one in 2007 at 9,54 kg, now it feels a bit heavier and certainly well over 10 kg…
Oh you're so pretty, you're so so pretty!
Very nice tiny scales like diamonds on the tail...
Gonna put this one in a retainer sling to let it rest before I read the scales.
Yeah you're gonna get up on the scales!
Then...
I put out my rods for the nights fishing on the pre baited area, and after some peaceful
and after some peaceful hours during the night, it got pretty intense in the morning.
Just before 5.00 I had a steady run but after some minutes playing it I lost the fish due to the hook link parting,
the fish made it to the thick reeds and I think it might have
managed to wind up the line around the reed and then tear the hook link apart...
...a bit unsure though as the hook link did not look torn, it was more of a cut but there
can be sharp obstacles in the water creating this. I also had a theory about pike, but
since the action after this episode remained pretty intense carp wise I'm quite sure it
was a carp that I lost here.
A couple of hours later at about 8.00 I get a new take on the same rod, and I get into
my boat and try to reach the fish as quick as possible.
Before I arrive the fish has been able to turn and swim against me and then 15-20 metre
straight into thick reeds, and so it became kind of an adventure to get out of the boat
with waders on a try to follow the line without the rod, into this reed and try to locate the fish...
...and after about 11 minutes of djungle struggle I actually got back to the boat with the Big Linear
...safely in the net!
It seems as if it's not only the stalking fishing that pays off right now!
At 8.00 in the morning I had my second run this morning, I lost a fish at about 5.00
due to the hook link parting, and then at 8.00 on the same rod, this fellow passed by...
... the Big Linear, for the sixth time!
16,72 kg this time, almost exactly one year since I had it out last time, then at 16,58 kg.
Not at it's heaviest right now but it's a fantastic looking fish.
I personally rate this one as one of the prettiest carp in Sweden, awesome looking scales, so clean!
I don't know if it's become…
some kind of a bad romance between me and this fish, this was the sixth time I had it out…
and I can tell you it was a number of occasions since I stopped looking for this certain fish.
I wonder if this fish instead has started to follow me, wherever I go...
However, it was a pretty nice fish to start off a good day with...
And about an hour later, the same hot rod goes off once again!
And I get a pretty wild fight with Uffes' Linear, or Uffes' Pale Linear as we also call it.
A very nice looking fish, one of the prettiest fish in the lake,
it weighs in at 12,92 kg...
Already at this stage I felt like I had experienced a very very good session, and had not expected
much more, but still i knew that some of the best and most productive hours were
still to go this day...
and while talking on the phone just before lunch time another rod in the opposite direction
roared off completely!
Once again I get to play the fish away from snags and reeds in free water, without the
lead and it's always nice to be able to feel some kind of safety...
around this part of the fishing.
I normally feel this playing part is connected with anxiety and I always feel that I just
want the fish in the net as soon as possible,
I find it hard to enjoy the playing part, but as soon as the fish goes in the net
it's always such a relief!
It's starting to become some kind of tradition here with photo sessions and weighing in fish,
but it's like that when you get a lot of takes.
This doesn't happen very often on this lake and right now I'm right in the middle of my
best carp session ever.
At 11.45 just before lunch I had a crazy take on another rod, and this fellow at 13.38 kg...
swam by...
Also a beautiful Kroppkärr fish, mirror carp with tiny tiny diamond scales around the tail,
very nice Aneboda-strain!
I got bloody excited when this one came on, I was on the phone when the bite alarm just
melted away as the fish tore line from the spool.
And I got to play it safely in free water with the lead dropping off, very nice!
I think it will be hard to repeat this bite frequency again, soon...
I remember last spring I had 10 blank nights before I had my first bite from the lake.
But to be here at just the right time, right weather conditions, to be able to catch as many carp
and as big carp as well and besides, be able to take a few of them on stalking fishing...
... this will take some time to realize...
...I guess…
Now... I think I'll be able to continue fishing in a pretty good mood,
even if I blank for some time...
Now it's primarily one fish I want to catch, a fish I've wanted to catch for many years now...
But who knows... sooner or later it might be there,
and every blank session, or every session where you bank other fish is one session closer to this fish.
And the waiting will be all worth it, without a doubt....
Next day...
Oh dear god..!
Resting in that net is the biggest and most important thing, that has been my force and motivation...
during all my carp fishing for the last six or seven years... … Damn it feels so good!
The long awaited Fat Mirror...
"About time someone of us two finally caught it"
Target number one!
Oh god it's so good!
21st of May today, right....?
"Yeah should be…."
....22nd even....
Are we looking good together?
Very good....
almost the same beard.... Almost the same beard?
Yeah, almost....
Oh dear god....
I can't get enough of this moment, it's almost too good to be true...
My first swedish 40lb carp..... my first 40lb carp anywhere actually!
And on my home lake as well...
This fish makes me completely hypnotized......
guess it's time to think about releasing this right?
Yeah, should be...
Think it's better to take it out a bit and release it further out in the lake...
... a little bit too much people walking around here
to let the fish stay in shallow water for too long...
Better to let it rest undisturbed in the depths....
Thanks everyone for all more or less encouraging words, everything that has inspired me to continue to fish for this one...
There you go, time to go home...
yeah, time to go home little girl... I was gonna say, but she ain't that little....
19,18 kg is the weight on this, wonderful creature......
You don't wanna go do you?
Bye bye....
Damn... that's the biggest part.....
Now I'm more focused than ever...
good good....
