I think it is really important that
people feel that there is a variety of ways
in which we engage with them, and understand really
what their local priorities are
and it might be a more formalised process
where we have neighbourhood partnerships, we have an annual survey
but also it is about getting out there
and understanding local issues through community councils
and informal discussions about what really matters in their area.
A recent example of where we as council services
have responded to a local issue was when we
improved and upgraded the steps at Silverknowe
and that was really to ensure that the residents
who use those particular steps were able to go about their business
get access to bus facilities, and also shops
and I think that project actually identifies that
having your say and being involved does really make a difference
and that we as a council are listening.
Here at Rannoch Terrace local residents have
shaped the design for a new facility
which will bring a library, day centre
and range of council services here to this community.
We know that one of the things
that is important to you is engaging with young people
and as a result, West Neighbourhood team have been involved
in a range of different projects, including the junior warden scheme,
delivering a multi ball park at Gateside Estate
and generally trying to support young people
in engaging and positive activities.
In the West area, we are committed
to working with partners and local communities
to ensure that we are constantly improving services
and delivering against local priorities.
