You're in the military. You've been PCS'd or you've already moved to a coastal location
and you really don't know much about hurricanes. There's many things you need to do but the
most important is to make a plan. When I was in the navy, I was a weather officer and I
was assigned to Kingsville,Texas and part of my job was to develop a plan for the base
and part of the plan for the base, was what to do for your families and yourself to protect
yourself when the storm comes. So that's the first thing you'll gonna want to do is check
out what happens at the base. Okay, your number one thing is to have a plan. You've check
with your base, you know what the base's requirements are, Check with your local government officials.
They have guides on what needs to be done. If you have friends or fellow service members
who have been there through a hurricane season, they will be able to help you advise and plan
for a hurricane. The other thing you need to do is start preparing emergency kits and
what not and that's the sort of thing you'll get from these guides and other online resources.
The last thing I want you to remember is you need to make your plans now because if you
wait until the hurricane is upon you, you'll be caught up in the crisis of the moment and
are bound to forget some important items for the safety of your family and yourself.
