I have consumed alcohol
I've never consumed alcohol.
I have consumed alcohol.
I've consumed alcohol.
I have, uh, consumed alcohol.
I have consumed alcohol.
Never consumed alcohol.
I've consumed alcohol.
I have consumed alcohol.
I haven't consumed any alcohol.
I have consumed alcohol.
Never had alcohol
So, what is the real reason why teens want to drink?
cause, a lot of people give in to peer pressure
...and that makes them want to drink...
...and they wanna be cool.
I saw my dad do it, and then I thought it tasted good,
...so I took it and drank it.
Fun, that's why I started drinking
Peer pressure, maybe they're nervous to go to a party,
...nervous to talk to a girl.
I think high school students start drinking because they're depressed,
...and their friends are doing it and they're really stupid.
I felt like I needed to drink cause I was thirsty.
Its, its part of social things, its part of social gatherings
...also the media enforces it a lot with movies like American Pie
A typical teenager would want to drink cause, uh, I don't know, they're interested in it.
I wanted to get really drunk, and have fun.
I think they just wanna, you know just to fit in
...and to be like, to rebel against they're parents
I was nervous to drink alcohol for my first time.
The first time I drank i had like 14 shots, I puked everywhere,
...I didn't remember anything and my friends had to give me a bath.
I think it was a fun addition to high school parties
I'm not really into like, uh, beating my wife when i get
...when I come home drunk or anything like that,
...but, uh, aggressions definitely a factor
I get really aggressive and really angry sometimes when I'm drunk.
The first time I drank the way I reacted, uh,
...at first I didn't have too much, so I didn't get sick, but,
...eventually you do start having more, the more time you drink
...so, eventually one time I did get really sick and it was a bad experience.
I've never thrown up from alcohol, but I have feelen sick
If I drank, If I were to go to a party, I'd probably drink every time.
I started drinking, at a regular basis in grade 9
I don't know why i drank, it was in grade 9.
I started consuming alcohol in grade 9 because all my friends
...were doing it and it seemed like fun, so i was like, "why not?"
I started drinking at a regular basis in grade 9.
I passed out in a corn field and the K9 unit was called and
...my hero, Falco, the dog, saved me and I was in the news and they wrote an article about me.
I've had alcohol poisoning.
Interviewer: Why do you think this happened?
Because I think I drank to much alcohol and it wasn't the best idea
...but I wasn't really thinking about it at the time, cause I was to in the moment.
I've never had alcohol poisoning.
It destroys brain cells and it can make you sick.
The average teenager's brain continues to grow
...until 20 to 25 years old.
Consuming alcohol during this developing period
...can seriously damage a teenager's brain.
Most teens have a misconception of alcohol,
..."It won't harm me, I can do this forever."
This most definitely not the case.
Here you see a healthy teenage brain,
This is the Frontal Lobes, which are mainly responsible
...for a person's decision making skills.
This is the part of the brain that alcohol effects the most.
It's become a social convention to consume alcohol at parties or social gatherings,
...teenagers see it as an opportunity to add an extra experience to the event that they are attending.
The life of a teen has become to say the least and
...well there is peer pressure or making friends, alcohol is practically, unavoidable.
We can have a good time, not under the influence.
I think it, just kills your liver, its bad for your brain cells, so
...I've resorted to stay away from that S%!#!
There are many health effects that are in relation to the consumption of alcohol
...one would be that alcohol is toxic to liver cells, to a point where it may not be able to function.
Seizures, heart attacks, high blood pressure may all result from alcohol consumption
...even without previous history. The effect on the brain
...consistently being researched, the findings have shown that
...effects on memory, problem solving skills and many others
...with the adolescent brain still maturing, alcohol acts as a structure
to this developing process.
I think that they are under the impression that you have to be under the influence
...of alcohol to have fun at a party, or to be, you know, come out of you shell.
Drinking is bad for you.
Maybe when I'm of age, because until then my body is still developing
...and its gonna harm my insides.
I think once I'm old enough.
When I'm legal
I feel like its irresponsible to do that when I'm not old enough
...I feel like I can make my own decisions.
When I'm Legal.
It leads to a person, it leads a person to becoming very unresponsible
...and unaware of their actions.
Its illegal
It's illegal and it's bad for my health.
I have been offered, by all my friends.
Yes, I've been offered a drink.
I have been offered alcohol, by my friends.
I dont want my parents to find out.
I thought it was discussing.
I've never been drunk.
I've dranken, on vacation with my parents with me.
to fit in and also because mostly people our age do it.
I've had a friend, um, have an alcoholic, poisoning. Alcohol poisoning.
I've had a friend, um, have an alcoholic, poisoning. Alcohol poisoning.
She almost had it. We were really scared, she was like getting mad at me, she didn't want me to call her mom
...but i didn't know what to do, so we kinda just went to our friends house who lived close by,
...and she,
...her guts out, and, um, it was pretty bad it was scary,
...and I knew that, you know she says,
..."I'm never gonna do that again", but you know she does, every weekend.
Someone has to be providing alcohol to these minors,
...the social convention needs to be changed and it is that simple.
With the more knowledge that is instilled in to the minds of teens,
...and children, and stricter rules,
...Some sort of change could hopefully be made.
