Part of a trio of halls built in the southwestern part of campus in 1957 lies Jones Hall which remains one of the two halls to exclusively house female residents.
Hello, my name is Nic Smith and today I’ll be showing you around Jones Hall which is located directly across from Greek Town.
Oh, hey Nona.
Oh, hi Nic. How are you?
Good, how are you?
Good.
That’s good. I’m here takin’ this tour small tour for Video Hall Shorts about Jones Hall. I was wonderin’ how I would go about doin’ that—if you could help me out with that?
Oh, that’s totally cool! I’m Jessie. I’m the desk attendant here in Jones Hall. It’s nice to meet you.
Um, you can come to me if you have any questions about things going on within the hall, or things goin’ on around campus.
I also do a lot of work with mail and packages.
But actually, it is an all-female residence hall, so you’ll have to be escorted.
Um, but I don’t think Nona would mind. Do you think?
No. Not at all. Let’s go to the lounge first.
Alright. Cool.
Just behind the front desk is the hall lounge—a giant space that can accommodate several study groups. Here you’d be able to study with friends, or hang out and watch TV on the big screen.
We have, I think something like 88-90% of the residents who live in Jones are Greek.
Um, so, one thing that we’re trying to do is bring in leaders from the Greek community as well as Greek faculty members,
specifically, so that they can interact with women who have gone on to hold leadership positions both in their organization and outside of that as well.
So they can hopefully get a sense of what these organizations can be in the future and what kind of things they can do when they leave Jones.
With that being said we still have a sizeable percentage of women in the building who aren’t Greek so we’re still working on tailoring events
so that they can get engaged and they can learn about ways to get involved in other avenues as well.
Walking outside of the house lounge and adjacent from the front desk, you’d be able to find the print station.
While Jones Hall doesn’t have a computer lab you can use these computers to print off assignments and papers.
You can also connect your personal laptop or desk top to these printers, and use your student quota to print out documents.
So this is the lounge and only lounges eight, six, and two have the mural but every lounge also has two balconies. Um, and yea, that’s it.
The hallways in Jones Hall are similar to Laws and Lathrop. If you go to the basement you’ll find a laundry room, a kitchen, and access through the tunnel.
The tunnels are a great way to walk to the Pavilion at Dobbs, a fantastic dining hall during these snowy winter days.
Similar to Laws and Lathrop are the rooms within Jones Hall.
The community style consists mainly of double rooms which are shared by two residents. However, you can find single rooms within Jones.
Hey Nona!
Hi guys! How are you?
Good. How are you?
Well Nick is here and he wants to do a tour of the room so I’ll let him talk to you.
Hi guys! I’m Nic from Video Hall Shorts just doin’ one room of Jones Hall.
I love Jones Hall so much.
I do too.
It’s awesome.
There’s so many things that I love about it that are different from the other ones.
Like, even though it is a little older than the other ones on campus, a good thing is that our doors stay open.
Yeah, everyone’s so close on the hall.
It’s been really easy to make new friends and meet new people ‘cause if a door’s open you kinda just pop your head in—“Hey!”—and meet new faces.
How do you guys like living next to Mizzou Arena?
It’s nice!
You can see the football games from our window on game day, and especially from the top floors you can see a full view.
Yeah, you’re really close to a lot of the tailgates and it’s not that far of a walk when it’s really cold outside for those football games.
Are you guys Greek affiliated? At all?
We are! We’re both in Chi Omega.
As you can tell with all our decorations in our room.
We started off with black, white, and lime green color schemes and then once we got in the same sorority, the cardinal and straw came into play really nicely.
How’s it livin’ in the, like, southwestern part of campus?
My classes are on the other side of campus, so it’s quite a trek. But there’s a lot of benefits to being over here.
But it’s really nice being close to Greek Town and you’re close to Stankowski Field, too so that’s nice.
Thank you guys for showing me around your room.
Of course!
Anytime!
Come back!
Bye, Nona! See you guys later.
Other great things to mention about Jones Hall is that it has balconies on every floor to enjoy the Missouri seasons.
The balconies close every night at 11 PM and reopen in the mornings.
The house lounges are combined with every other floor to create a large,
open lounge that creates an indoor balcony.
And, Jones Hall is located at Kentucky Boulevard, which intersects Providence Road.
