[Richard Savino and the Grammys]
[Music]
>> I'm nominated for a Grammy as the Director/Conductor of my group, El Mundo, but I'm also one of
the primary performers in the group. It's a funny sort of designation. It's in the small
ensemble category. It's quite an honor to have been recognized
by your peers in this matter.

>> I formed El Mundo in 1989 as a vehicle to sort of launch some of my most creative
projects, so we specialize in music from Italy, Spain and Latin America from the 17th through
19th centuries and the intention here is to play it on the instruments
as closely as we can summize of the upoc.

[And one of the reasons I play guitar is because of The Beatles.]

>> You know, it was an epiphany for me. These guys were having fun. They wrote super creative
music. They had a lot of energy, they improvised. And it was a confluence of popular music that
then evolved into this what I considered to be one of the
high art music of the 20th century within 5 years. And, if I had the chance to meet
Paul McCartney, it would just make my life full circle.

>> And I began experimenting with loots, and baroque guitars and from there it's just been
this incredible explosion of senority for me. And what I love is the fact that everytime
I pick up one of these instruments, another door opens.

>> My life to start with is crazy. So, using that as a base of insanity that is my life,
putting this on top of it, makes it just even crazier. I feel like a kid in a candy store.
