25, 26... >>Look at you, pumping some iron, huh?
I've got a PT test coming up next week.
You know, I was watching NBC's "Biggest Loser" and those contestants are ripped.
They got nothing on this.
Ana Allen hung out with a couple from last season who went head-to-head with soldiers in a PT test.
Amy and Phil Parham aren't the kind of couple to back down from a challenge.
They did, after all, wow the world with their weight loss on NBC's "The Biggest Loser."
So when Army Newswatch gave them the chance to test themselves against the Army standard of fitness--
--they raced down to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
I told them when I came out today that I wanted to compete and get a T-shirt--
--so I'm going to go home with my Army T-shirt.
Demonstrators, post.
For soldiers, the Army physical fitness test requires a daily commitment to fitness and for good reason.
In order to execute that mission effectively, we have to maintain a high level of physical fitness.
Amy and Phil have only been committed to fitness for less than a year--
--and despite a few apprehensions--
I'm terrified of the push-up.
--the Parhams were matched against NCOs in their age bracket.
They seemed to find the most fit soldiers in my age bracket.
First off in the challenge: push-ups.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. [whistle blowing] Stop.
I'm not a push-up champion. Oh well.
With 2 points going to the soldiers, the group moved on to sit-ups.
Next test, begin. 1, 2, 3...
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. [whistle blowing] Stop.
I'm not ashamed. I think she did an awesome job. I'm really proud of her.
With the score at 3 to 1, the participants took on the 2-mile run.
[♪"Final Countdown" playing♪]
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. [whistle blowing] Stop.
Although Phil and Amy didn't beat the soldiers overall--
--they not only met the Army's fitness standards for their age group, they exceeded them in every event.
Phil and Amy, I tip my hat and I've got a lot of respect for both of them.
The civilians not only won the soldiers' respect--
That was a good job. Four months of running.
It was just a good experience to actually share something with them and see how far that they actually have come.
--they earned a new title--
We are Army strong!
