I’m Mylou Oord. I’m 22 years old and I’m from Amstelveen
I started taking photos when I was about 17, 18
When I was 17, I was on my own in New York
where I was taking photos with a digital camera
I really liked that and I got a good response to them
so I thought: I’m going to do more with this
I call my photography photo-documentary with a touch of fashion
Because I don’t see myself as a fashion photographer
but it is an element that I do want to include in my images
I also really like going to Fashion Week
I went to Paris last year and I really liked it
So I definitely have something with fashion
but to photograph only fashion...
I think there are more interesting things than just fashion
This project came about because I was spending a lot of time with Aynouk Tan
She’s a very good friend, and because I’m a photographer
I would always have a camera with me
We would often go out to parties and I always took photos of her
It started to turn in to something, and at the time, Dash Snow had just passed away
and then I saw a series by Ryan McGinley in Vice and I thought:
The series for Foam should be on Aynouk
Many of the pictures really just happened when we were walking down the street
or waiting around or at a party that just happened
Like this picture in Paris. That just happened too, but then we made it…
it’s more posed than for instance a photo where Aynouk is lying on the ground
That really was a particular moment
The title: 'It would be so nice'. The line comes from a Madonna song, Holiday.
That’s a playful reference to the music I listen to
But it also says something about me, because I hang out with a lot of guys who are gay
I go to a lot of parties
It’s a bit silly but it’s also a playful reference to that
But It would be so nice is also mainly because at a certain point
the friendship meant more to me than just friendship
I didn’t really know what it was or where it was going
and it would be so nice if... was very much the feeling I had about it
Also about this series. That it would be more, but that never happened
I’ve completely accepted that
which was sometimes very difficult, but that’s how it is
And I’ve made a beautiful series about it which is on display in Foam
