Hi, my name is Pam Nichols. I'm a veterinarian at the Animal Care Center in Bountiful, Utah.
I'd like to talk to you a little bit today about where you might find an Irish Wolfhound
puppy or where you could buy an Irish Wolfhound puppy. The answer is the same for most breeds,
and that is you can start with your veterinarian. That's probably your most reliable source
of information. Your veterinarian is going to have owners of those breeds, and they can
direct you to rescue organizations or to responsible breeders that they know are performing appropriate,
responsible testing before that breed...before that puppy's been delivered. An Irish Wolfhound
is a sight hound, and it's a pretty specialized dog, and so you need to be absolutely certain
that that's the breed you want before you go hunting for this dog. They're very, very
large, and as I said, they're sight hounds, and so they tend to be non-off-leash dogs.
If they see a rabbit or they see a cat, they're gone like a shot to chase after that animal,
just like they would be in the wild. I'd like to caution you against using the Web to find
an Irish Wolfhound breeder, or any other breeder for that matter, because a lot of information
can be misrepresented on the Web fairly easily. And so for example, they might say they have
the nicest, most well-tempered, best-bred dogs in the land, but you don't really actually
know that that's true. So I always like to go off of a referral from a friend that has
one of that breed or a referral from a veterinarian that has experience with that breeder.
