Hi I'm Tim Gipson and I'm going to talk to you about maintaining your electric garage
door. Now we're going to start on this end where actually the opener attached to the
garage door and this is where you run into a lot of your trouble. You want to make sure
that with these attached points, check these occasionally and you want to come back and
probably every two or three months you want to make sure that these are tight. The same
way with these attach points up here you also want to make sure that these are secure as
well and it's always good to have a ratchet and a wrench and you want to make sure that
you put your wrench on the bolt head side and then tighten with your ratchet on the
nut side and just make sure that these are snug. Those are some common areas that you
run into. Now while we are down here this particular model is a chain and track model
and to make sure that this keeps running smoothly what we want to do is just take some lubricant
and in this case I'm using a WD40 and we want to just spray along that chain and that way
we allow that to run nice and smoothly up along that track. Now that takes care of us
on this end and then we can look at some things on the other end. Now this is on the drive
motor side and if you're having trouble with the garage door coming up, every door up here
has a limit switch and this switch up here is actually what tells the garage door to
stop running. Again while you are down here you want to take time and go ahead and spray
the chain on this end. The other thing that you can run into is when you come in every
time you operate your garage door the light bulb should come on and this is a safety feature
because a lot of times you come into the garage and you don't want to come into a dark garage.
To change these most of these are just a clear or a plastic drop that comes down so you push
on it and pull it down and then just unscrew your bulb to change it. Those are the basic
things that you want to look at to maintaining your garage door opener. So I'm Tim Gipson
and that's how you maintain your electric garage door.
