Hi Daniel Harkavy here. Welcome to this week’s Leadership Moment.
When an organization loses its way, it must focus on its values and its purpose. We can’t
forget what businesses were in. That quote was shared from the stage at the World Business
Forum a few weeks ago by the former CEO and Chairman of Medtronic, Bill George. Just a
very gifted leader, and I thought about that quote in contrast of many of the coaching
sessions I am having right now with leaders like yourselves.
Many leaders are working on their 2012 business plans, and I know there is still a high degree
of uncertainty. Many leaders are lacking confidence.
So what I want to talk to you about today is I want to challenge you before you put
your 2012 Business Plan together to review your vision. There are two things that I want
you to look at when you are reviewing that vision because I think it will help you when
you are putting your plans together.
The first thing is: Is your vision clear and concise? It needs to be so that you can build
plans from it to move your organization forward. The second thing is that it needs to be compelling.
It needs to excite you. It needs to get the juices flowing. If it doesn’t, you are not
going to have the confidence or certainty to move forward.
And this I know - all of us leaders in today’s times have great opportunities, but we need
to be confident, we need to be clear, we need to be focused. So before you put your plans
together for 2012, take a good look at your vision. Make sure it’s clear, concise and
excites you. You will thank me at the end of 2012 if you do so.
