I'm Jessie Quinn from cupofbooks and today I'm going to be doing something a little
bit different.
[music]
I'm going to be doing my Top
10 favorite books in 10 different genres of my choosing.
Okay, I'm going to put the cup down and start listing off the books.
My favorite book in the realistic fiction genre is The Namesake by
Jhumpa Lahiri.
This novel follows a family who moves from Calcutta to the United States and
documents their.
immigrant experience.
Admittedly any book that explores the significance of names is bound to
capture my interest.
My favorite book in the classic genre is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
This novel is the most well known for its love story,
however it also offers a lot of insights and critiques on how class affected
women's opportunities in Regency period England.
My favorite novel in the humor genre is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
Out of all the novels featuring the end of the world, this is definitely one of the most
hilarious ones. Also I ask that you forgive how awful this copy looks.
Once upon a time, my dog actually tried to eat this book.
My favorite novel in the mystery genre is The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie.
It's one of her Miss Marple
mysteries.
In a small country village, there is a flurry of of anonymous hate-mail sent to a
variety of different people
and when one person ends up committing suicide over one of the notes,
there is the question of whether it was actually suicide or whether it was
perhaps a the ***. Miss Marple investigates and the mystery begins to
unravel.
My favorite novel in the fantasy genre is Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
by Susanna Clarke.
This novel follows two magicians in an alternate history, in which
magic existed in eighteenth-century England.
There are also fairies.
Unfortunately I don't have the dust jacket to show you because I bought this one
at a thrift store.
For my favorite novel in the romance genre, we're going to go with
Sappho's Fables, Vol. 1 by Elora Bishop and Jennifer Diemer.
While this is a collection of three different fairy tale retellings, at its heart, it's
a collection of romances and all the relationships shown in this one are very
sweet.
My favorite novel in the dystopian genre is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.
In the not so distant future, birth rates are declining and some women have been
forced into becoming handmaids for families who have not been able to have
children. My favorite work of drama is The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar
Wilde.
In this play,
our protagonists maintain fictitious personas in order to avoid social
obligations.
Shenanigans ensue.
Also my copy is part of the collection I bought for
a drama course in college.
In the cooking genre,
I would have to say that my favorite cookbook is
Three and Four Ingredients Recipes by Jenny White and Joanna Farrow.
My grandmother loves to buy me cookbook after cookbook, however this is one of
the only ones that I actively use.
In the art genre,
my favorite book is The Goblins of the Labyrinth with
artwork by Brian Froud and text by Terry Jones.
Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies and this is filled with character designs
and little tidbits about each of the goblins that are featured in film.
I am not going to list this video as a tag because
I'm sure they're are tags like this that already exist.
However if you do want to post a response video and do your own 10 favorite books
in 10 different genres of your choosing,
feel free to do so.
Also if you just want to share your list in the comments below,
feel free to do that.
And now I'm going to finish my tea.
