What do you wear on a sunny day?
Tank top and flip flops.
Now would you wear that when it's pouring rain or snowing outside?
No of course not.
You see, people change their clothes based on weather conditions. How come some people don't change how they drive?
Maybe they don't know why they should.
Well we’ve got Driver Examiner Damien here to convince us.
Damien, gimme one reason why I should change my driving when the weather’s bad?
Because the road itself changes.
When roads get wet, the pavement gets slippery
And in cold weather, bridges and overpasses can freeze quicker than regular pavement
So it could be hazardous even if you don't see frost on the ground.
How are some ways I can adjust my driving if the weather is bad?
Slow down and keep your distance. Rain, fog, snow and ice can all affect you braking ability.
Also, don't use cruise control in wet or slippery conditions.
It can make it harder to stop your vehicle in these conditions.
Okay, let's say I forget.
I'm cruising along at 50km/h but it's icy out and my tires start to slip.
What now?
Don't panic. And don't slam on the brakes.
Simply ease off on the gas, then gently apply brake pressure
and steer in the direction you want to go.
Thanks Damien.
