What's going on everybody? Welcome to
this 12th video on network
plus. My name is Jack Jenkins and this
is Academy of One. Today we are going to be
talking about telnet, SSH and NTP.
In this video, I'm going to be talking about
telnet, SSH
and NTP.

Telnet is a virtual
terminal protocol. It is client
server based and it's used in
unix and linux environments. Although you can get
it on windows but it's not default.
And the reason why telnet is not really talked that
much these days is because of sever security
issues. That's why we used
SSH now a days. [Music]

SSH or secure shell
is the virtualized terminal protocol
used these days. It you ever
used or any linux you
probably come across SSH.
SSH encrypts data as it
travels through which makes it much more
secure than telnet. That's why SSH
for the most part is used over telnet.
At least on the internet.

NTP or network time protocol is the
protocol used to facilitate network
time. More commonly it is
used to sync to a NTP server
that way you can automatically get your time and date.
For any of us who installed windows
you may have noticed that since windows
XP I think it was that this is done automatically.
Back in like windows 95 you had to do it
manually and it was a pain in the butt.
Thanks to NTP it's just that simple.
Now NTP is
also one of the oldest network protocols.
And I think it was developed by
a professor from the university of delaware
I really forgot. Sorry about that.
So as a quick recap. Telnet is a
virtualized terminal protocol.
Which means it is a client-server protocol
allowed within a terminal.
It comes within unix and linin system and you can
download an application for it if you want to use it at windows.
SSH or secure shell
protocol is telnet but better.
Because it has security and
telnet is just old news.
NTP, network time
protocol is used for time synchronization
between a client and an
NTP server. Thanks to NTP
people like me who are too lazy to
manually change the clock on the computer will have it
automatically. Which allows me more time to eat
some doritos. Thanks NTP.
Now in next video,
I'm still not sure what I'm going to be talking about in the next video.
So, just say tuned for that.
Time for the plugs. You can go ahead and follow us
