This station opened on 20th September, 1914 and it has a daily ridership of 519 passengers in 2011.
I took this movie of station, vicinity and trains at Amarume station.
Amarume station has a reinforced concrete one-story building.
A Doppler radar is installed on the roof after derailment accident on 25th December, 2005, caused by windstorm.
There are parking, taxi stand, and bus stops on the rotary.
The local bus connects Amarume station with Town Office and Sakata station.
The monument greets visitors to Shonai Town and promotes famous water, rice, and wind electricity.
Amarume station is a center of Shonai Town, however there are few people around the station because of snow.
To shade wind the wall stands in front of the entrance door.
There is a restroom on the left of the building.
The number of upbound trains for Murakami on the Uetsu main line are 23 every day (including an extra rapid train KIRAKIRA UESTSU). So, 1 to 3 trains come every hours.
The number of downbound trains for Sakata on the Uetsu main line are 31 every day (including an extra rapid train KIRAKIRA UESTSU). So, 1 to 4 trains come every hours.
The number of upbound trains for Shinjo on the Rikuu west line are 11 every day. So, 1 train comes every 1 or 2 hour.
The reason the number of trains for Sakata is larger than that for Murakami is almost all downbound trains on the Rikuu west line go direct to Sakata (Amarume is a terminal of Rikuu west line formally).
The ticket office opens between 6:40 and 18:30.
The station shop "AMARUME HOT HOME" opens between 7:00 and 18:00. They sell local sakes, craftworks and souvenirs such as bean bread.
The chairs on the waiting room set around stove. Passengers can warm themselves during waiting time.
Based on tradition of the River Mogami, a legendary "kappa" statue greet passengers at wicket.
The plate next to the statue introduces the history of Amarume.
Each platform and building are connected by bridge over railway.
Amarume station doesn't have platform No.1. The number of platform starts from No.2.
Trains on the Uetsu main line use platform No.2 and 3.
Trains on the Rikuu west line use platform No.4 and 5.
Amarume station has 2 platform with 4 tracks.
Since section crews remove snow with great enthusiasm, there is little snow on the platform.
The platform No.1 was abolished because of its shortness and it is separated with a fence now.
Each platform has air-conditioned waiting room. Passengers can wait for trains with avoiding heat and coldness.
The sign over the platform shows information of train approach, delay and tickets.
