We're here today at Tally Ho! to promote the use of the social media site Twitter,
and how it's being used by the Air Operations unit,
in allowing people access into the life of West Midlands Police Air Operations unit.
Basically we are tweeting every task that we go to after we have finished.
To allow people an understanding of why we were called and what we did over their house at 3 o'clock in the morning.
The helicopter is a really great tool to have here at West Midlands Police.
We use it for a whole range of things from searching for missing people.
To dealing with serious acquisitive crime, finding stolen property and targeting criminals.
It's a great piece of equipment to have and we are really pleased to have it.
We're not only using the site for promoting Air Operations and West Midlands Police in relation to use of the aircraft.
But we're using it to warn members of the public of incidents which are going on
which may disrupt their day to day lives such as
blockages on the motorway network or even asking them in relation to assistance
with searching for missing people around the area.
Well the Twitter account's really just giving people an insight into work that goes on
some of the stuff that people don't see on a day to day basis
and it's a different way of talking to people above the ways that we normally do that
so hopefully we'll reach some new people who don't communicate through the other mediums
we use, and the other the other benefit of twitter of course
is the really interactive way to engage with the public so we can get their views as well.
Simply because of the feedback and the positive nature of the comments, which are on
Twitter, I think people are more inclined to provide information.
And we're finding more innovative ways to interact with the people,
and members of the public so, we've put photos on there
video clips, anything really that provides an insight into police aviation and police life in general.
