We take our middle name, community, very seriously here at JCC, so you'll find a lot of opportunities
to interact with community professionals who might be part of a small ensemble. You may
find an alumnus of JCC who just loved the experience so much that he or she is going
to come back and sit beside you in the concert band. And opportunities to go out and perform
in the community too, because that feedback is so important. So, community is important
in everything we do, and I think that's a lesson that we passed on to our students,
when they leave us as well to get involved with their communities, to give back to their communities.
There were so many opportunities that we were presented with in the music program here at
JCC. I can go on and on with the opportunities that we had.
We had a full concert band. That's where my best experience came. That got me ready to
go on and perform. What I do now, I'm a musician. I play in two symphony orchestras in the Pittsburgh
area. I also perform with the Chautauqua Symphony. The concert band here really planted that
seed of being a good ensemble performer.
One of the advantages here is that you could probably be occupying that first chair even
as a freshman, where some of the four year schools, you might not be able to get that
challenge until your senior year.
And also, the great thing about concert band was we got to meet so many different people,
from different schools, sharing that commonality of music. It's really a great, great experience.
