The problem with fuel prices that has just arisen is not just in the capital of Baucau, but has also happened in the Sub District of Laga.
This problem has also made public transport drivers on the Baucau-Laga route fed up and stop their activities.
A driver on the Laga route, Mateus André, said that the route from Baucau to Laga now cost 75 cents.
Mateus André added that the reason why they had increased the fare was because the cost of fuel had gone up to $1.10.
According to Mateus, many passengers were refusing to pay the fare that the drivers were charging.
Meanwhile, a member of the community, Manuel Ximenes, said that they understood that the cost of fuel was now going up,
but their drivers could not force customers to pay what they wanted, but depended on the ability of everyone.
In response to this question, the head of the National Directorate for Land Transport (DNTT) in the District of Baucau,
Sergio Freitas da Costa, said that, for their part, they were unable to give a response.
Meanwhile, when asked about vehicles that were driven on the route, the head of the DNTT said that,
the problem was police transit that had the right to have a checkpoint.
