Okay, we use the ten steps of service to up sell. The first thing we do is greet the quest
and the second thing we do is ask them what kind of drink they want. And the three dirty
words that we call here at Rib City is drink, appetizer and dessert. And you probably say,
"why?" Well, what we like to use is exact words. Like instead of saying, "what can I
get you to drink today," to a customer, which 90% of the time when you say that a customer
going to tell you water. We like to describe it. So what we do is say is, "how about a
raspberry lemonade, today? We have coke products and then we have certain beers on draft or
wine." So we like to say specifics and then this gives a customer a choice of what they
want to drink instead of just saying water. Or standing there saying, "what can I get
you to drink?" And then nobody says anything for ten minutes. The second thing we like
to do is with appetizers. We do that way also. So while we're taking the drink order, we
get them to think about the appetizers that we have on the menu, like our cheese fries
or our onion rings or our shrimp and then we try to describe those.
