Hi I'm Courtney Jamieson and I'm here at The Learning Connexion studying the Diploma in Art and Creativity with Honours and I am Majoring in Jewellery.
I had some friends that came here and I came in one day to check it out and loved it, it looked real cool.
When I walked in everyone greeted me and were real open and showed me around
they showed me all the stuff that they were doing and I just loved it, it was awesome.
At high school I never thought of myself as being artistic or creative or anything like that.
First I tried to go to Victoria University. I lasted like 3 days.
Then I went and worked at The Bead Shop and that’s where I got intersted in jewellery.
And from The Bead Shop I came here.
I enjoy working with silver and I've just started working with bone.
Which I have just fell in love with.
This was my first bone piece these bat wings - Pekapeka.
The Pekapeka is the New Zealand (Maori) bat.
I like the silver and bone together and I want to work on it more.
I am trying to use natural materials that I've found.
The facilities here are awesome. You can find pretty much whatever you need here.
Last year we got the roller mill.
And they have just set up a whole stone cutting room which is all new and just opened more doors.
Anything you can think of that you want to do or need is here.
It makes things a thousand times easier.
It just means you can do whatever you want to make you can do. It's awesome.
I like having lots of people around me
you get inspired by each other's stuff while you walk around and look at each others things.
We all ask each other questions and help each other out which is really nice.
I like the tutors, they are down to earth and they just support you in whatever you want to make
they let you explore different things and are there to guide you.
They are really good. Really helpful and really clever.
I want to be able to make a living out of my jewellery one day.
Just have my own little studio and maybe a little shop or something and just sell my jewellery,
and make it natural and as New Zealany as possible
