Soccerplayers and popstars have a lot of them
But not only the stars have them. Ordinary people have them too: Tattoos.
A tattoo is a must have these days Some people get tattooed based on an impulse
and for others there is a very special story behind the tattoo.
From now on we'll show you very Thursday a tattoo and it's story
We'll follow Tattoo artist Bram Willems from Roosendaal.
It is the conclusion of a period, a new beginning. I sense in people that they want to make some
kind of statement for themselves but also to the outside world.
A tattoo is perfect for this
I'm not the type of person who is full off himself
I rather talk about myself as being a Tattoo Artist.
But I think it's very nice when people see my work as a work of art.
It is nice to hear that. Nowadays you can tattoo photorealistic portraits
That gives you a lot of freedom as an artist
I have no pre made plan or whatever. They're just pictures.
And each picture has its own significance, as it were.
I found these pictures on the internet and Bram,
customised them all in a way that it doesn't correspond with the original
ones warn by other people
If you have a little imagination and are creative then you obviously are capable to draw a very
original design for someone. This was the original picture. And this is
the final design
I believe it's very important that a tattoo is a original and that the customer really
gets the tattoo he or she deserves .... So that it really becomes his tattoo.
I'm just working on your design. One moment.
I'm roofer and I would like a tattoo of a gasburner
on my leg.
It's much more fun to actually make it your own.
That's something I always try to do.
It looks greatÉ. huh? Yes, I think it's really nice.
It is the interaction Between those who come for a tattoo and myself
being a tattoo artist. You know.
There must be a click And then out of that click something's created
With the end result a tattoodesign.
A dog's paw print. That's the print I made after she is deceased
and Bram used to make a tattoo design for me
Many people come up with something I often give them some tips like:
I think it is much better if you do this or you should really change that.
It is up to them to determine whether or not to go for it.
A while ago, I met Bram in his shop and we looked at all the options
The letters were a little too big. We fixed that just now
And now I got the perfect design for me
She had a about 4 different paw prints. From all the print I collected the best looking
individual toe print. And then I put it all together resulting in
one perfect looking design. I have a lot of respect for my customers
and for people in general. I like to connect with them, enough to do
my work Look, my customers sit in my tattooseat anyway
getting tattooed is an unpleasant experience and I help them
through the whole process
Euhmmm ... I expected that it would hurt less. Hurt Less?
Well yes it really does hurt
I believe it's got to hurt a bit
It hurts. It even hurts right now. But... uh.
I can sit and complain 'bout it But I'm like:
If you start nagging about it, it just will take longer to finish
It doesn't get much better than this And it will hurt anyway.
People do have something like: I did it. I survived this tattoo
If you feel nothing it loses it's value Well hey
I get the idea that people push their limits because
they are in pain. Getting a tattoo pushes their boundaries physically
they tend to push there boundaries mentally as well.
People are very open and they tend to tell me everything.
She was undergoing a sterilisation and after the anesthesia were drove home.
En route we got a call from my father that she was deceased.
People you really do not know very well tell me things that are important to them.
I get to hear a lot of secrets A little piece of trust.
And I think that is the beauty of the work.
I have 2 tattoos. When I was 17 I have had Gibson Les Paul Custom
tattooed That was my dream guitar and when I bought
it on my 17th birthday it had to inked into my skin.
The second was a tribal. I was 19. A friend designed it for me
If I could choose something else now. Then I guess I'll would change them all.
But that does not mean that I regret getting them
Yes, that's just how the cookie crumbles Yes, you can judge me for not having enough
tattoosÉ. But hey ,ÉÉ. maybe it's a better idea you
focus on my work instead
Yes. Next week we see how Linda captures the special memories of her dog in her tattoo.
