If you live in Singapore and are considering buying a Medela Breast
Pump from the US,
maybe my experience in doing this for my wife and I will help you out.
When I was searching sites based in Singapore, the Medela Breast in Style
Advanced Pump was around S$700
And a 50 piece box of Medela milk storage bags was S$35.
So we worked out that we needed one hundred storage bags which is about two
boxes
and plus the pump that would be around S$770
which seem pretty expensive to me. I managed to find a site in the US called
Away Baby Essentials
and I got the in Style advanced pump for 260 US dollars
and the storage bags at sixteen US dollars a box
A relative in the US fit it all into a large flat rate box which was about 65
US dollars
including insurance to ship it to Singapore. This is a type of postage box
from the US Postal Service
where there's no weight limit, your things just have to fit in the box.
Since the electrical adaptors is for the US which is a 110 watt, I had to get an
adapter to output nine volt
with the right size plug. I found a shop and Sim Lim
called Sin Li Electronics, located on the second floor
that sells an adjustable multi-plug adapter
that works with Medela Pumps. Okay, I just found the place
that's at Sim Lim, it's at 02-02, on the second level
but here's where you can get your ac/dc adapter,
in case you got Medela Breast Pump from the US. If you need to find this,
it's kinda tucked in the back, just walk with me here,
the escalators is just out here at Sim Lim but it's just
tucked here in the back, 02-02 and here's the escalator.
Straight shot, just go straight to the back. You'll pass a sexshop
on your left side and just keep going back. It retails for $32.50
but it being Sim Lim, you'd be foolish not to bargain.
Even though I didn't get the price under S$20, I thought it was worth the
price
because it was made in Japan and not in China. I just double-checked the original adapter,
make sure it's at nine volts and then I took the new adapter
and switched it to nine volts. Okay, I found the plug that match the Medela adapter
was the second two biggest plug.
Do note that if it doesn't work you might need to switch the positive and
negative around simply by flipping the plug.
To add up the savings in Sing dollars, the cost of this Medela Breast In-Style
Advanced Pump,
with a hundred milk storage bags, shipping and a new adapter
was about S$433 , compared to buying
in Singapore, at S$770, I managed to save S$337.
Hopefully this video helps you out when it comes to deciding if you should buy
your Medela Pump in the US
or just buy it from Singapore. Please share your experience in the comments to
