My name is Teodor Vassilev and am a Vice Chairman of the National Youth Forum. I want to ask Mia:
Mia, do you want to have peace on Earth? - Yes!
-Let's see if you can say it louder. Do you want to have peace on Earth?
- Yes ! -Yeah, right. About the International Peace Day
I know for 3 or 4 years. When I first got in touch by email and watched a presentation
of Jeremy Gilley, a man who perhaps for more than a decade is trying to impose this date
as a day without armed conflicts all around the world. Or at least one day, when we can
stop the conflicts in the world, to leave the weapons in silence and to let people talk instead.
Futhermore to let people's hearts speak. In our work, we have used a very famous
handbook, created by "Peace one day" - the organization of Gilley . It's aimed for working
with students and young people on issues of non-violence , peace and understanding among people.
Talking about NO hate speech, quite often think that when we realize this fact
, for example me personally -- I am assuming myself as a positive person , always am trying
to think positively, except in traffic jams or in very nervous situations. However,
quite often I realize that I have stereotypes that are very deeply rooted in me.
I realized this during the last year when I had to work very often with young gypsies and the gypsy community in general.
I realized how many stereotypes and language of hate exist in our everyday life .
When we talk about them when we are among them, even in front of and talking with them,
we use the language of hate. It is hidden behind different words that seemingly should
not bring negativity and a certain way of thinking about their ethnicity,
but it is a fact that this is happening. On the other hand in the public domain everywhere we face
with language that should not be used when talking to each other.
The situation is that: a lot talking and little listening . We say so many things, but do not reach to each other's hearts.
We do speak with our hearts so rarely and when the others do so we do not attempt to read below the lines.
This is why our society is full of maturing conflicts just waiting to happen.
After a conflict happens we say: "Wow what happened? Why did this appear? ".
This is the happening quite often with the gypsies and it will continue to happen because we discard them and leave them in the fringes of our society.
Right, Mia ?
Let's talk about the peace now . Do you want peace on Earth?
- Yes ! - You're not using hate language towards other people, are you?
- Yes !
