Hi, I'm Ruben.
I'm from AsunciĆ³n, Paraguay
and I'm majoring in Psychology at Macalester College.
Right now I'm interning at Regions Hospital,
I work as a nurse's assistant in the intensive care unit,
progressive care and oncology unit.
The nurses are sort of the front-line soldiers in the medical field.
It's very rewarding to me when I see someone happy or content
because of something that I might have done.
I think nursing, for me, was the perfect balance
between science and helping out and caring for others.
It's actually really nice to be able to be so close to Regions Hospital
while studying at Macalester.
I think my psychology courses have definitely helped a lot.
For example, Abnormal Psychology at Macalester has definitely given me a lot of insight
on why people may act in strange ways or act in a challenging way.
So having that insight has helped me a lot
to find ways to reach a patient's needs and calm them down
in a way that is comforting to them.
I'm a senior this year,
and I'm very excited to go out in the real world
and I can definitely say that Macalester has prepared me very well for it.
