Kyle Rae: When I was on City Council, I had -- had been an activist in Toronto working
on gay, lesbian, bisexual issues from 1981. And then I got elected in 1991. So for 10
years prior to being a city councillor, I had a very active activist agenda working
in the *** community in downtown Toronto, working on issues that were important.
And that period from 81 to 91 included, you know, attending the failure to amend the Human
Rights Code in the province of Ontario in I think it was 82, and then being in the legislature
in 87, no, 86 when it was amended successfully.
So prior to being elected, most of the work that I did in the community was around equality
rights for gays and lesbians.
