Hi. My name is Charles Diawaku and I work for Biblica.
Biblica is formally known as The International Bible Society.
Our national office is based in Kinshasa, within the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is four times as large as France,
and 80 times as large as Belgium. The population is 70 million plus people.
And 80% of these people claim to be Christians,
in the sense that they are religious, are church-goers,
and they are involved in church activities.
But now our problem is how do we ensure
that these people actually read the Bible so that they may be transformed
through the reading of the Bible.
One day I came upon a book called "What are Christmas and Easter All About"
and as I was going through this book it hit me that
this story was all about creation all the way up to the Cross.
It's the story of the Bible in a simplified form.
and it hit me that if this book was made available
to people who were not in the habit of reading the Bible it would certainly build up enough curiosity to
bring them back to the Bible. In this sense I believe it would
resolve the problem we had of how to get people to read the Bible
so that their lives may be changed.
And then I heard that our good friends at GoodSeed had planned to come to to Kinshasa
and so I got in contact with them through email and we agreed to meet.
And once we met we discussed how we could partner together.
I told them that we had translators, we had translation expertise.
We also had printing houses available.
We also had space for wharehousing and also we had ways of distributing
the booklets in the same way we distribute our Bibles, which we do through partners.
Now what overjoyed me was to learn that the material they have is
already available in French. I was really overjoyed because we think
we could begin with the French and work our way into translating
the booklets and different books they have into different languages.
We are already involved in translation in a language we call Lingala.
Lingala is a language which is spoken by most people in my country.
There are over 20 million people who speak Lingala.
So we would like to make this material,
this booklet available to the speakers of Lingala because we
believe it will make a difference in how they respond to
Biblica teaching through the Word.
We believe it will impact their lives.
So please join us in praying and to reaching out to the people of my country
and any help you can offer, financially or otherwise,
will be most helpful because it will make a difference. And I thank you.
