>> ANNAMARIE PETSIS JONES, HR DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY: Creating a close knit team is very
important to Opus Energy because in order to deliver excellent customer service you
need a team working together. >> ANDY NASH, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY:
Opus is one large team. It's absolutely crucial to recruit the right type of person into the
team. >> ANNAMARIE PETSIS JONES, HR DIRECTOR, OPUS
ENERGY: Apprenticeships help us to nurture the right type of talent. We look to attract
talented individuals who are motivated, willing to learn and committed to a career.
>> ANDY NASH, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY: Apprenticeships really help us in that we're
able to shape, and mould, and nurture that person to be the right fit for Opus.
>> ANNAMARIE PETSIS JONES, HR DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY: I feel the apprentices have integrated
amazingly well into the team, and in fact developing into really strong employees.
>> CHLOE, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADMINISTRATOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): I feel I've changed,
especially my confidence, I can speak to people more clearly.
>> HEATHER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): I feel a bit more
confident, definitely . Even though I was an apprentice, I got to have buddies
and stuff so I could prove that I could teach other people.
>> HEATHER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): Over the past year
I think that I've developed a lot of skills relating to customer service that have also
helped me with my personal life as well, such as being more patient, learning to communicate.
>> ALICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): The apprenticeship
has definitely opened my eyes to different ways to get into the workplace, as opposed
to having thinking that university is the only way to get a career in management, or
going forward and developing within a company. >> ANDY NASH, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY:
The apprentices are almost unrecognisable from where they were 12 months ago. Their
contribution to the overall business has been absolutely fantastic and has probably surpassed
anything that we expected at the time that they came in.
>> ANNAMARIE PETSIS JONES, HR DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY: I believe the apprenticeship programme
has been very successful at Opus Energy because of the support network that we put in place
right at the start, and I think that's been key to the success.
>> HEATHER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): You get that extra
support. You also get to have that qualification. >> ALICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER
OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): If you're trying to do a job and get a qualification separately,
you've got to work for example 9 till 5 then do evening classes, whereas doing the apprenticeship
with the qualification involved in the job, you've still got your evenings free, and you've
still got the weekends to socialise and things like that which you probably wouldn't have
if you were doing a job and qualification alongside each other.
>> HEATHER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): I think on the job
assessment works well. It just becomes part of your daily routine, you don't need to get
nervous about it or get worked up about it. >> HEATHER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER
OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): I think it's better to have done the qualification within the
job role because then you feel more of a sense of achievement that you've completed something
as well as just being in work for a year. >> ALICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (FORMER
OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): When I got the letter through to say that I had completed and I
would be receiving my certificate soon, it's sort of a good day, you do feel quite happy
about it. >> CHLOE, CUSTOMER SERVICE ADMINISTRATOR (FORMER
OPUS ENERGY APPRENTICE): Yeah it feels great because I know that I've achieved something
and I've got a really good career in front of me.
>> ANDY NASH, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY: I think it's been successful purely because
of the drive and enthusiasm that the apprentices have shown. We are so proud of what they've
achieved, it's been absolutely fantastic, both for the apprentices and for Opus Energy
as a whole. >> ANNAMARIE PETSIS JONES, HR DIRECTOR, OPUS
ENERGY: I've been very surprised by how dedicated, motivated and career driven the apprentices
have been. We've since brought on more cohorts of apprentices, we've also introduced a Certificate
in Coaching and Mentoring. >> ANDY NASH, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, OPUS ENERGY:
That just demonstrates how successful the apprenticeship scheme has been for Opus Energy.
