In other news now,
over 2000 Gisborne high school students protested today
because they say it costs too much to catch the bus to school.
This issue has been pursued by the students themselves
with the Ministry of Education.
The plea of Gisborne students.
They are marching from Kaiti to Gisborne Girls' High School,
which is a 4km walk.
However, they're protesting the cost of the bus.
It costs $1 one way to school, that's $10 a week.
so for families with four children it costs around $40 a week.
Over 700 Gisborne high school students live in Kaiti.
This got the students thinking about the number of their friends
who do not make it to school.
Ministry of Education policy says
if students do not live further than 4.8km from their school
then they must pay.
The aim now is to hold a meeting with the Minister of Education
and their MP to discuss their concerns,
but if their requests are not fulfilled.
They'll have a long walk this winter.
