Naturally, at some point you're going to want to add people to your groups or to your projects.
It's fairly straightforward to do. First go to the group or the project where you want to
edit the membership of the group.
If you click on the "members" tab
it'll give you a listing of all the members. Right now this is a very lonely group with
just me in it.
Because I'm a manager of the group I also have these extra tabs across the top,
including the ability to manage members, where I can delete members or promote them to make
them managers as well.
And "requests," if this is an invite-only
group then I can approve people who want to join.
And I can add an external user. This means that a user who's not on the site at present. So
I'll go ahead and add Alexander Halavais.
Alex Halavais
And if I click on "add member"
and it gives me a moment.
Now what it's done is it's added this person to the collaboratory itself
as well as to my group.
So they'll get a message inviting them to log on and find out more about the site
and when they log on they'll find that they're a member of this group.
Again, if I decide that I
want to get rid of this person I can go to "manage members"
and I can either remove that new member from my group altogether or I can promote them.
Note that if I remove them, they aren't removed from the Collaboratory, just from my group.
Once they've been invited in their welcome to stay.
I'm going to go ahead and promote this user so that they, too, are a manager.
And now they can invite people as well to the same group or project.
