Hi , my name is Brian Dusel. I am the coordinator for academic coaching and engagement here
on campus and we are one of the services here in the student success center. We offer one-on-one
coaching, between a coach that is well trained and any student here on campus. We focus on
pretty much the gambit of study skills, whether you want to focus on note-taking, concentration,
exam preparation, if you are looking for some ways to get ready for that one test, or just
aren't sure exactly how to set your schedule for the semester, that's what we're here for.
We are actually located in multiple locations around campus, including some of the residence
halls where you're living. We actually have satellite office in Bates, Columbia, and Patterson
Hall, as well as some services in the Thomas Cooper Library. So please feel free to make
appointments with us. The best part is, it's free. So the appointments themselves, all
you have to do is go on our website and make an appointment through that and if you have
any questions, let us know. The best part is we are offering coaching from noon to four,
and we are also offering some evening hours for those of you who have classes during the
day, which should be most of you, from seven to nine.
Hi! My name is Meghan Aubry, I'm the elections commissioner for student government and I
just want to tell you all a few things about student government. So first of all, for your
purposes, freshman council is going to be what you want to get involved with first.
So that's kinda the governing body for freshmen. They meet Tuesdays at 5 PM in the senate chambers.
And that's a great opportunity to get involved, sorta learn what student government is about
and put on some great initiative for the freshman class. We also have a number of programs going
on. Carolina Convoy is a great initiative that we are doing. We are going to travel
to the Georgia game this year. So we'll take you on a bus, you'll get your football game
ticket and you'll get to sit with lots of other Gamecock fans at the game and then we'll
bus you right back here to campus. So it's a really great way to get involved and cheer
on our football team. We also have a cool initiative called the bucketlist. So that's
100 things that every Gamecock should do while you're at USC. So you should definitely pick
one up, we'll have them at all the welcome week events and we really encourage you to
get involved with that and check things off your list and get involved with our social
media for that. You can also run for senate. We're gonna start having interest meetings
in the fall so be on the lookout for that on all our social media and on our website.
So senate is the legislative part of student government they are 50 members who come from
all the different colleges and schools that you can run as a representative for your school
and those elections will take place in January and February of this year.
