Shane Hansen is a Maori artist
who is working on a number of projects for the Rugby World Cup.
He is working on a piece of memorabilia
for those who attend the Rugby World Cup.
It's easy to see that Shane Hansen is a professional artist,
no matter what he creates.
This is Shane's contribution to World Cup memorabilia.
The balls are the same make
as those that will be used in the World Cup rugby matches.
But these aren't for playing with.
Art is in the blood,
but Shane is positive about the strong position his art is in,
after suffering with depression.
From darkness to light,
and another project that is close to his heart has come to fruition,
a thought provoking painting for people to think about
during the World Cup.
Shane says it could be seen to contradict
the very cause he is helping,
but for him this is about provoking conversation
and getting people talking.
But for those who have the money,
here is an authentic gift made by a Maori
whose art is not only his saviour but his life journey.
Irena Smith, Te Karere.
