As a trauma nurse, we tend to get, you never know what to expect in the ER, and that's the great thing about it. You never know when there's a trauma coming in through the back door, or general medical illness that's coming in through the front door, but I enjoy being at Hillandale because we deal with all types of populations, all types of people. Being an ER nurse, you never know what you would expect. I joined DeKalb Medical after a recruiter contacted me and made an offer. I then notified the facility I was currently working at in Birmingham, and they were willing to make a counteroffer, but the DeKalb recruiter invited me up to visit the facility, it was a family-oriented environment, I enjoyed what I saw, I enjoyed the physicians I was introduced to. DeKalb Medical is a great family-oriented environment. The initial interview with my manager, I mean when I first met her, it was like family. My first day on the job, the employees would come up to me and they would joke with me, say "oh, you're the new kid on the block" and I mean, it was just so loving. The atmosphere was very kind; it was very loving. Everyone was helpful; they made sure that I was at home. There have been several times where managers have pulled me aside and say "how do you feel in the emergency department? Are you comfortable? Do you enjoy what you're doing? How's work going?" People would follow up and say "how's the move going? Are you okay? Have you relocated yet? Do you need extra days off so that you can get to the city and get comfortable in the city?" So it was just, it was so much family, it was such a family environment with management and with team members, and that's what I enjoyed the most. Well DeKalb Medical has an excellent nurse referral program that allows you several opportunities, and I knew an individual who worked alongside with me in Birmingham, Alabama that I thought would make a great member of the team. I enjoy trauma nursing, I enjoy different scenarios, I enjoy not knowing what's going to happen next. There's nothing else I could see myself doing except for nursing. My name is Marvin Turner and I'm proud to be a nurse at DeKalb Medical, Hillandale.
