Alright. Stu here again.
You've seen my review of the Taurus PT 24/7 Pro Compact. Here it is.
And, uh, I'm just going to show you because in the review I showed you this, but...
There's your loaded indicator right there sticking out.
So obviously this is loaded, so I have to be very careful with this.
We're just going to do some shooting today, then later on I'll tear this down and show you how to clean it...
...One-Armed Bandit style!
But if you've seen my past videos, you know I absolutely hate diet sodas, so we're going to take some out.
The old .40 caliber. Let's see what it can do.
[laughing] Well it took me 11 shots, but I finally hit it!
We'll load up again and go after another one.
Alright. I totally forgot to wear my earplugs last time, so I'm half deaf now.
And I remember from my review, so many of you guys loved my desert BDU cover here that I thought I'd break it out just for the .40 caliber.
[laughs]
Now I've got the full-sized magazine in here, so I've got 14 shots, that, uh...
I think my odds are better that I'm going to hit it this time.
I'm going to try a different shooting stance.
So let's give it a shot here, okay?
So here we go.
Hopefully I can prove that I'm a better shot this time.
Nope! I'm a terrible shot!
There's lots of bugs out here in the Arizona desert, so I'm going to blame it on them.
But I've got a few rounds left, so we're going to try that orange soda over there -- which is also diet.
Let's get up a little closer.
Because I'm a terrible shot, I've got to be up close.
It's a bigger target.
Well what do you know? When they're bigger, they're easier to hit!
We've got an orange hopper over there. Let's see what I can do with my last few rounds.
Well, I guess I just needed a little warming up.
I did have a couple of misses, but there you go!
Uh, this is... As with all guns, any misses are not the fault of the gun. It is the fault of the user.
Or, in my case, the fault of these Arizona bugs.
They're everywhere. They're buzzing in my ears and crawling up my nose and everything. It's a little distracting.
But with some discipline, you can always hit your target if you know what you're doing.
Like I said in my review, great gun. I haven't had any problems with it.
I've had it for, I think about three years now.
And, you know, I really like it.
It's not the most comfortable gun for me, but -- you know -- it gets the job done.
So there you go ladies and gentlemen.
Taurus PT 24/7 Pro Compact.
In the hands of a capable shooter, great gun. Great gun.
Okay. We've dirtied up the Taurus, and now we're going to clean it.
Now, I know everybody has their different preferences for how and when and how often to clean, how to do it.
Well, this is how I do it. So we're gonna do it.
The main thing is we're going to show you how to tear down the gun... Uh, field strip the gun for field cleaning.
So what I've got here is... I use these Butch's Twill Patches.
These are nice because unlike the patches that came with my el cheapo gun cleaning kit
They don't leave lint all over the place. They're lint free and they don't leave lint all over your gun.
Um...
Q-Tips, a couple of toothbrushes. These are nice.
These are actually, uh, brush heads that I got from Cybersonic back when I had a Cybersonic toothbrush.
They'd ship me 2 of these every 3 months, and so since they shipped 2 I had a ton of extra and so I use these.
You know, obviously the brush, little doohicky here. I don't even know what that's called -- for putting the patches in.
El cheapo gun oil. Just Outer's gun oil that came with my el cheapo gun cleaning kit.
I use this Hoppe's solvent. Pretty strong stuff.
The solvent that came with my gun-cleaning kit didn't do anything for rust.
So I went out and bought this stuff. Took it right off.
Some strong stuff.
And... that's pretty much it
So what I do is I'll take the solvent
and I'll usually dump it into another container that I've got here, or a little bit of it.
And sometimes what I'll do is I'll the barrel or some of the other parts I'm cleaning
and I'll just dump them right in there and let them soak in the solvent.
And, of course, paper towels.
Taurus PT 24/7 Pro Compact.
Got the slide locked open. You've gotta lock the slide open.
Safety is off, and then rotate this tab right here down...
...counterclockwise to roughly the 6 o'clock position, and then you pull it out.
Okay?
And then you release the slide, okay?
Now you want to do this carefully. You don't want it to go shooting off of there, so...
Now, make extra sure that the, uh, that it's clear. Okay?
Now we'll release the slide.
I'm trying to do this one handed. Normally I have something that I can operate this on.
And then you have to pull the trigger to get this off.
I know a lot of people don't like having to do that, but here we go.
[Trigger clicks]
That is why you want to make extra sure that it's clear, and, obviously, have it pointed in a safe direction when you do that.
Once you do that, it'll slide right off.
So there goes the slide.
And then, you know, just like any normal gun...
...retaining spring there.
Pull it right out. Barrel comes out.
You know, this is all very standard. A lot of pistols are all the same way, and so that's what you do there.
Okay, so next thing I'm going to do is, um...
I'm just going to dump this guy in the solvent.
Let him soak a little bit, and then I'm going to set him down on a paper towel...
...after letting him soak in there, you know, soak up a little bit of that.
That will dissolve or loosen up, or whatever, and dirt or grime or muck that you got on there.
Sometimes I'll just dump the barrell in there.
I'm not going to do that this time.
But what I am going to do is take this guy and, uh...
You know what? Instead of explaining this, I'm just going to show you.
So we'll put this into high-speed mode and then, you know, we'll be done in no time at all.
[Sound is muted]
[Dramatic silent-film style classical piano music plays]
[Piano music stops]
Okay! That's pretty much it.
I'm going to do a little bit of cleaning on the magazine here, but...
The gun itself -- that's a field strip, field cleaning right there.
I'm a little bit rougher than some people are with their guns.
I'm far less concerned with how my gun looks, so I'm not worried about scratching it too much or marking it up a little bit.
One thing you do have to worry about though is sometimes when you're going at it with the paper towels or the Q-Tips
you know, lint will get caught on the edges or something and you'll have to dig out some lint so just keep an eye out for that.
You don't want that going on.
And just kind of take a good look at it. Make sure you get all the nasty dirt and grease and powder and everything out of there.
And, you know, like I said, that's how I do it.
I know that everybody has their own technique and way that they like to do it.
Feel free to discuss it in the comments. If you think I'm wrong or if you think I'm right
or what you do differently that you think is better or not as good or... whatever.
When I first bought this gun, I didn't clean it for 8 months and about 800 rounds.
Really not that big of a deal in my mind. I know some people like to clean it after every single shooting
or even if its been in storage for awhile, they'll take it out and clean it.
I'm just not that big of a cleaning freak. And so...
I'll put this back together. You all know how it goes back together, but we'll go ahead and do that.
Make sure that's centered.
And this came with my el cheapo gun-cleaning kit. Just Outer's gun oil.
So I use this to lubricate it. I just put a couple of dabs right on the tip of the Q-Tip.
And then just anywhere there's, uh, any two parts are going to be sliding up against each other.
So basically between the slide and the frame.
I go ahead and I'll put just a touch of oil on it.
"Less is more," as they say. And so you don't want too much.
I mean, obviously, the more oil you have on there -- oil attracts dirt and dust and powder and everything.
And so you don't want to get too crazy with it.
A lot of times you'll find that as you're doing that, you're actually picking up dirt.
I don't know if you can see that, but you'll pick up dirt.
Which means, it just means that...
you know, you're never going to get the gun 100% clean.
Like I said, you're just going to take it out and shoot it again, so...
Every once in awhile you'll do a full cleaning where you tear the whole gun down into its individual components and do a full-on cleaning.
You know, you do that every once in awhile -- no problem. No problems at all.
Something that's sometimes neglected is the barrel here, where the slide and the barrel meet.
I put just a touch on there.
And it helps it operate a little more smoothly.
And then, slide that on, lock the slide back, and uh, and then...
It might have been overlooked, but the pin you actually want to clean too, so dump it in there.
Wipe it down real quick.
So lock that open, put the pin back in.
Make sure it's facing down at the 6 o'clock position.
Uh, you want the barrel out all the way, because it slides freely back and forth when that pin's not in.
So you want to make sure it's all the way forward.
If it's not, it won't go in.
Push it down, snap it in.
Turn it back to its original position [pin snaps into place], and lock it in.
At that point, you want to operate the slide.
Make sure everything's working. I'm going to go ahead and dry fire it. Point it in a safe direction.
[Firing pin releases]
Seems like everything is working. And, of course, you'll want to operate the slide several times to make sure it doesn't come flying off.
If it does, obviously you did something wrong.
But there you go! Very clean, very simple. And now it's ready to fire again.
You know it's not, um, it's not as good of a cleaning as a lot of people would do.
But, uh, you know, like I said, I'm just going to get it dirty again. And then I'm going to clean it again.
So if I miss something this time, I'll get it next time.
So there you go! Nice and clean PT 24/7 Pro Compact.
Easy dissassembly, simple to put back together and, you know, so simple you can do it with one hand.
So there you go YouTubers.
This is Stu. Until next time, be safe at the range and take care of yourselves.
