-Blender 2.60a - Render Settings =====If something's wrong, tell me and I'll correct it :)=======
-What's up, guys?
-After we talk about lamps and "World" (Ambient) settings,
-Now, I'll talk about other settings to control your render, all right?
-So I'll get start to talk about "Dither" that's usefull option when you have problems with gradients in your scene here.
-All right?
-Mainly when you use the "World" settings here.
-Let me put some lighter colors here...
-Here, "Blend sky" too. -I'll light just a little bit more, here
-Also "Dither" helps when you use the "Mist" option here, ok? -I'll increase the intensity just a bit.
-I'll decrease the depth just a bit here.
-I'll decrease the start distance for 3 here, too.
-I'll make a render now, here...
-I don't know whether you can see, but the gradient is here. (Let me put it on "Full Screen" - Ctrl + "Up arrow key")
-If you see, you have the division in the gradient here. -It's not smoothed.
-You have some "Division lines" in the gradient colors.
-Usually, you want a smooth gradient, right? -So you can use the "Dither" option to correct it.
-ok?
-So in 2.49 version the "Dither" option was here in "Render Settings"
and, here, on the corner, you have... "Dither".
-All right?
-In these new release versions,
now, you have, here, in the "Render" settings, "Post Processing" and it's here, "Dither".
-Ok? -So, you have the value here. -0, none, and 2 for the maximum value.
-I'll put the maximum value, in 2, so you can see it.
-I'll switch to "Slot" 2, here. -I'll make the render...
-Well, looking here, now, -You see that those "division lines" were disappeared, right?
-If you zoom in here, now, you'll see that it puts some noise in that region for remove those "divisions".
-Ok?
-So the "Dither" option is use for this. -It adds noise in those regions to decrease the "division effect" and gives you a better quality image.
-When you switch the "Slots" here, now, it already corrects the images for you.
-So i can decrease the "Dither" here, now, to remove it.
-If i switch the "Slots", my "division lines" come back to appear -(Let me increase a bit more for us see them here)
-I'll pull here...
-If I increase the "Dither" value and switch the "Slot", here,
it has already put the noise for me, correting it... -So you can control the "correction levels" here.
-All right?
-I'll decrease the noise just a bit for not too much intensity.
-You can decrease it a bit more, see another render...
-See it, here, it has already appear a bit more... -So you can adjust it here...
-Anyways... -So it's only a option to solve the color problems in the gradient
-All right? So...
... No "Dither"... -I'll go back to "Slot" 1, here...
-You see the "lines", the "color divisions"...
-Now, here, with "Dither"... -(Let me increase it...)
-I'll switch the "Slot" now, right? -It already remove those "lines" for you.
-Ok? Also the "Dither" option appear in other edition programs like "Photoshop", per example.
-When you create the gradients, you have the "Dither" option, too. -So that's "Dither" option. -It adds noise to eliminates thoses "line effects" in the gradient
-Ok?
-Well, folks, now I want to talk about "Simplify" option -It's a feature used to accelerate your render time a bit more.
-For example, here, I'll increase the "Shadow sampling" in these Lamps.
-I'll put 6, here.
-For this Lamp, I'll put 10, here.
-Also I'll activate the "Ambient Occlusion" here...
... with the "Raytrace" method. -I'll leave the distance with 3 here.
-I'll leave the "Sampling" with 10, too, and the "Falloff" just a little bit.
-So I'll make my render...
-Well, It's finished, here... -It took 35 seconds to render the frame.
-I'm with the soft shadows and more. -I checked my scene here.
-Then, now, you want to go back to work with some more things here. -So you decide decrease the Shadow sampling, you decrease the "Ambient Occlusion"...
-Of course, when you have few lamps here,
that's not so hard to do. -The problem is when you are with several lamps here, in your scene
and take them "Lamp by Lamp", adjusting them, decreasing the shadow and more... deactivating shadows...
-So in the "Scene" settings here, you have "Simplify", here, on the bottom.
-In 2.49 version it was here, in "Render Settings",
-Here above, you have this "little buttom", "rt",
you put the value 1 and it opens the "Simplification" option.
-Ok?
-Now, in these recent versions
-It's here, in the "Scene" buttons, in "Properties" window,
and, here, on the bottom, you have the "Simplify" option.
-So what can you do? -Here, you control some "global values" in your scene.
-Then you can decrease the "Subdivision Surface" level, right?
-For example, here, I have different subdivision levels for...
... for Suzanne, I'm with 2,
for plane, I'm with 1 here,
for the...
... this "donut", I'm with 3,
here, I'm with ... (Let me see)... 2
and so on. So the...
... Also the "Subdivision Surface" take some time in your render, right? -(Depending on subdivision levels that you use)
-(As I already said when I talked about this modifier) -So for you don't need to decrease "object by object",
-You can come on here, on "Siplify" option and decrease it... ... 0.
Or you can put a lower value. -For example, I'll put 0 here
-Ok? It remove it here. -But it'll also remove in your render, ok, guys? -It's for the render.
-Then you have the "Subdivision Surface" level. -You have some options here, for particles, too.
-You can decrease, here, the factor for "Ambient Occlusion" and "SSS" ("Subsurface Scattering" for materials that I'll to talk later, ok )
-You also have the shadow samples. -So I can decrease the samples for 2, here, per example.
-But there's one thing, guys. -I don't know whether that's a "bug", here, in this version because...
... I don't know. The factor for "Ambient Occlusion" and Shadow Samples doesn't working. -I'm decreasing it here, and it doesn't change them.
-I don't know whether I'm doing something wrong or whether there is something wrong in the program, ok?
-So, here, it doesn't working, ok? -Then I'm just showing it for you know what this option do.
-So I'll put 0, here, in the "Subdivision" level because it's working though.
-It's done!
-The render is finished. -It doesn't decrease the shadow sampling, here. -I don't know the reason.
-I don't know whether I'm doing something wrong. Anyways... -In 2.5 version I've been done it, normally. -I don't know what happens here.
-However, all right... -You saw that I decrease the "Subdivision Surface" level here, to 0. -It removes...
... It removes the "Subdivision" of all objects, here, without I need to take "one by one" them.
-Then, now, you see here, with "Subdivision Surface" = 0,
my render time decreases, here from 35 to 25 seconds.
-You've already decreased your render time in 10 seconds, right? -Sometimes you want to make, now, an animation, for example,
to test a walkcycle or something like that, a camera movement...
-You've already saved 10 seconds in each frame.
-Ok, guys? So...
... you have the "Simplify" option, here. -I don't know why it's not reducing the shadow samples and more, here,
but, that's what this option do: it reduces some global options here, in your scene.
This way you don't need to take "object by object" and change its values.
-So you can use the "Simplify" to change your scene in a "global way", control it
-If you want to go back the previous options, after you make your tests and more,
-You can deactivate the "Simplify" option and your settings will return. -I'll make another render...
-Well, now, I deactivated the "Simplify" option. -The "Subdivision" level of the objects returned -Now, the render time already increased.
-Ok?
-Anyways, that's it. -So you have the "Simplify" option, too.
-You have de Shadow option (that I don't know why it's not working), but you can also control the "Subdivision Surface" here.
-All right?
-Now I'm going to talk about others options here, on "Render" settings.
-I already showed you a basic overview about these options.
-So I'm going to show you some more "little things" here.
-Ok? -So...
-I'll get to start saying: -You can decrease the dimensions, here. -You have the resolution, here.
-If you wish a faster render, you can decrease this. I'll put 10, per example.
-I'll switch to "Slot" 3, here. -I'll make another render...
-You see... It was fast -You've already done a test, here.
-So, if you want to make some tests, just to make a faster render to check it with a bit lower quality,
You can reduce the render size, here. -Its process will be faster.
-Now, 4 seconds, in comparasion with the other here, that took 36 seconds.
-Then you can also to make render tests with smaller sizes, here,
for the process to be a bit faster.
-you also have the "Anti-aliasing" option, here. (That's filter which controls the "edges smoothness")
-You can eighter decrease the samples here,
or deactivate it, as well. -It's just a test. -You come on to "Slot" 4 here, now...
-It's there. It was fast
-This way, you have a basic render preview without need to use this option.
-It already takes some time in your render. -You have the edge samples here, ok? -So you can deactivate it, too,
and, here below, you have the "Shading" options
that you can deactivate it.
-For example, you can deactivate the use of shadows, here. -You don't need take "Lamp by Lamp" to deactivate them.
-You come on here, in "Render" settings, deactivate the shadow, make another render...
-It's there, almost immediate. -Practically, 1 second, here.
-Ok, guys?
-You also have, here, the "Raytrace"? -So you can deactivate the features that use "Raytrace" like...
... like the "Ambient Occlusion" and Lamps that use "Raytrace".
-For example, sometimes you have some Lamps, here, with "Spot" option activated, using "Buffer Shadow". -You can leave the "Buffer Shadow" activated
and just deactivate this option, here. -Instead of deactivating the shadows in your scene,
-You can deactivate the "Raytrace" and that will deactivate all the shadows that are using the "Raytrace" method.
-So you can make the render, now...
-That's because the Lamp may be with a low energy value, here. -It's very low... The distance and more... Let me...
... Let me increase it a bit more for you see it...
... Let me increase the distance, too, here... yeah...
-It's there, right?
-It deactivates the "Raytrace" and I'm just with the "Buffer Shadow", here.
-Right, guys? -So you can use these options, too, here.
-You can desable all the shadows -Now, it deactivates all them
-You have the "Anti-aliasing" for edges here.
-Now, You can return the smooth edges if you want. -You can decrease the samples to 5...
-The render goes a bit faster
-You have the dimension, here. -You can decrease more yet.
-You also have the "Simplify" to reduce the "Subdivision Surface", the samples that I don't know why it's not working.
-Anyways... -So, you have those options to help you, here, right?
-Because as you've seen,
-You have the samples for "Ambient Occlusion", the "Raytrace" that might take time in your render when you make something smoothed
-you can also have many lamps here, and the shadow process might take time a bit more...
-My scene is with few lamps, here, but...
... when you have a bigger scene, you might add many lamps
and take them "Lamp by Lamp" and adjust them... you know? -You want to make a faster render
and take "Lamp by Lamp" for setting them here, "take one, take another one"... This might be "kinda" tedious process. So...
-... So you have already these options, here, the "Simplify", those ones in "Render" options to remove shadows and more, here.
-Ok, guys? -These are just some tips for you to reduce your render time a bit for make render tests
-That's because, sometimes I see many people going to foruns taking some render tests and complaining about the render time.
-So just give it a try and decrease the render size for a faster render. -You can check it with a smaller size -This way you can take a render preview and know how it is going.
-Anyways, you have the "Anti-aliasing", here, you have the "Shading", here, you can deactivate the "Raytrace" and shadows, right?
-You have some options, too, here, for materials and more (that I'll talk later).
-Ok, guys?
-So it's just a general idea about these options for you have a little bit of control on your render.
So after you've already done the tests and defined how to you want your final render,
then you improve its quality: increasing the size, the samples, deactivating the "simplify", if it's activated...
... and that's it :)
