Welcome to videotutorial no. 2 for "Radiobattler 2012".
This time we will have a closer look at the virtual mixer - integrated in Radiobattler (RB)...
some features at cartwall / jingleplayer in main program,
and two brand new features in version 2012: monitoring and audio effects.
The integrated mixer in Radiobattler is always particularly useful
if you broadcast from a place where no hardware mixing console is available.
On mixing-tab it's possibile to adjust volume of all audio sources.
As seen during my introduction, there is already running at this time a song on player A
automation has therefore put volume of player A to 100%.
It may all the other players (here, it is 3: A, B and C) to be adjusted in volume.
Coming soon, the next song in the next player (player B) will start automatically
Radiobattler will start and adujust Player B's volume and and then fading out player A.
To ease the DJ's work, there are two buttons next to each fader for quick access.
One to decrease volume to 0% of the canal (arrow down) and to increase up to 100% (up arrow).
Additionally to three player's on this screen there is a fader for jingles / cartwall.
By the list below individual carts can be controlled or all at once.
The last fader-control in this section is for microphone, named PTT.
PTT represents "push-to-talk". Next to this control there is a level indicator.
You can watch your microphone's level at this display any time.
This feature helps DJs to keep perfect volume for the listener while talking during the whole show.
As seen on screen, sound of my microphone is continuously recorded in addition to music from Radiobattler (just for video).
Therefore the annotations are audible, even though PTT-fader is on bottom position (0%).
You may also recognize that microphone-level is also shown at "0%".
This allows you an optimal adjustment of level before being "on-air" (e.g. if music still runs).
To keep the volume a program and during the "assist mode" for the listener always equally loud,
there is at the bottom of the mixer the possibility to control the automatic volume adjustment.
This feature can ensure that even in the "assist-mode" differently loud songs will be adjusted automatically.
In many studios of course, the music files are already leveled when importing into the system.
Or other hardware does this job. In this case radiobattler's automatic adjustment may be turned off, here.
The last one on the right is the volume control of the new function "monitoring".
Monitoring means to control and prepare the transmission signal.
Let's look at related settings in program:
In the settings dialog relevant options for audio-monitor are to set.
Above the selection of sound card, there is the possibility to turn on and off the monitor option.
Automated switching on and off (mute) of monitor can be activated here as well.
And you can even decide whether pre-fader listening (PFL) will be on monitor as well, or not.
Especially when working in a studio without headphones or whenever records are needed parallel to the current program,
it is very important to be able to mute your monitor quickly. There is a button below the slider for this.
The muting also works automatically when using push-to-talk button (PTT).
Then other rules for PTT will operate in parallel of course ("mic-on", "reduced master level", etc.)
Let's take a quick look at two new settings.
For the processing of audio sources in Radiobattler there is now the possibility of putting effects on the signal.
There is a simple equalizer, delay can be added and a compressor is ready for volume adjustment.
The last function of this tutorial will be stacking for jingles.
We will observe stack on jingle player one for this presentation:
Stacks you can you consider like a simple, hierarchical playlist.
The order can be configured for each jingle-player.
So jingles can be in a prepared order for your show.
I will add some audio files to the stack 1 to demonstrate it.
This now stack 1 with 4 mp3-files on it.
I can now sequentially play these files during the show using jingle-player 1.
The currently loaded jingle I've been playing as an opener of the show.
Therefore I would like to prepare the next one in list and click on the yellow arrow to do so.
To load the next element in the stack, it is not necessary though, to play this before.
This means that prepared jingles during the show can be skipped by just clicking the arrow.
