I'm Gabe Garza with today's health news. There are a lot of dangerous jobs out there—deep-sea
fishing, logging and mining can all present immediate, life-threatening situations. But
what about jobs that cause health problems over a long period of time? Your cardiologist
may know something about that. According to a press release issued by the American Heart
Association, a new study found that healthcare professionals who perform cardiovascular procedures
that require X-ray monitoring are at a higher risk for a number of health problems. Over
the course of a 30-year career, healthcare workers, especially cardiologists, are exposed
to the equivalent of 2,500 to 10,000 chest X-rays. Along with a slue of health problems,
these health care professionals with an average of 16 years in a cath lab were three times
more likely to get cancer. For dailyRx, I'm Gabe Garza.
