The Bottom Heavy Brass Quintet, consisting of Richard Cheek, Dave Quarmley, Andrew Singer, Dan Rouse, and Ryan Hayward
all friends who have been playing together throughout their time at Hofstra University.
We had a group of friends
and we became pretty good friends and we had people in each section that
would usually
be a regular quintet
I also got into arranging so I arranged most of our music and we
started making it a regular thing and
it kind of evolved
It was pretty cool.
The group consists of three seniors, one junior,
And one sophomore.
Quintet playing is really cool because
usually you're in a large group and there are a lot of other people playing your part.
but in a quintet you hold the responsibility for your part. It is a lot more focused, a lot more intense,
and it's a lot more musical, you can really express yourself.
Being a music major consumes most of the day
Starting with classes during the day and ending with concert rehearsal at night, The quintet still manages to find time through their busy schedules to meet
I love these guys, they're great. We all play brass instruments obviously
and we just got together a couple of times, made it a regular thing
and decided to turn it into an official quintet.
