Stepping is a form of dance that's commonly seen between college fraternities, namely
African American and multi-cultural fraternities.
What "Step Afrika" did was take Stepping back to the roots, sort of how it started in Africa.
It's different as far as how they started and how we do it. We incorporate a lot of
things that we as fraternities and sororities do in our individual steps, so stepping as
a whole across college fraternities is probably similar, just based on everybody coming up
with their own different theme that makes it their own for each specific chapter.
But what they (Step Afrika) did was, what they had was more intricate and they told
the tale of how it traced it back to Africa and where it all started from. Even when it
started here in America and how it came over and all that.
Just understand that it's its own thing, you really can't compare stepping to anything
else. You just go out there with that mindset that you're going to enjoy the sound and the
rhythms and just respect that talent of the people out there doing it because know that
it's not easy if you're never done it before. If you haven't tried or haven't seen it before
you probably won't understand it. Just really listen to the rhythms and the sounds and see
how they're making it, and if you pay close attention you can just respect it.
