Experi-Metal Incorporated, Blue Ribbon Company of the Year.
Experi-Metal is a prototype sheet metal supplier to the automotive, aerospace, military and
alternative energy components worldwide. We stamp sheet metal in steel, stainless, aluminum,
Inconel, and various other exotic metals into the form as predetermined by our customer,
and then we may provide stampings only, we may provide kirksite tooling, we may provide
a completely assembled body in white or subassemblies based on customer requirements.
We are blessed. We have been very successful in many years in Experi-Metal. We've been
in business since 1959. We have approximately 150 families that we support, and we have
to give back. We have to be thankful and give back to the city of Sterling Heights, to the
surrounding area and to the state of Michigan for our good fortune and our hard work.
Experi-Metal has five primary core values, and we have them so we know how to conduct
business and how to make sure that the business prospers. So, the first and primary core value
is safety first and foremost. Secondary it's quality. Third it's productivity, but we never
sacrifice safety or quality for productivity. Then we have attitude and commitment, a strong,
positive attitude and commitment to excellence, and lastly, teamwork and integrity. All five
of our core values are incorporated into the company to assure profitability, to assure
success, to assure community outreach and continued public service. Kind of like the
Red Cross and blood, it's better to give than to receive, and so the employees at Experi-Metal
and their families believe in this. We believe in making a better place. So we actively participate
twice a year at blood drives with the Red Cross. We go to volunteer our time at Gleaners
on a quarterly basis. We have packed food, we have counted frozen pasta, we've husked
corn and done numerous other things for Gleaners on a quarterly basis to help out. We've also
had Santa Clause show up and collect donations for Gleaners, and along with that, when we
did our donations to Gleaners, we collected monetary donations from the shop floor, and
then Experi-Metal matched all of those donations, and then Wal-Mart generously matched all of
those donations again. So we were able to donate approximately $9,500, which was 27,771
meals for the hungry in our local community. One of the other things that we do is we care
for the quality of the environment also. It's not just here locally, but it's globally even.
One of our fastest growing market segments is in alternative energies, and this alternative
energy implies anything from battery power, air power to all kinds of different things
and really is one of the things that we're looking to grow and improve.
Again with this attitude and commitment, we are an integral part of the community here
in Sterling Heights and beyond, and we want to do more than just be a business. We're
looking at giving back, supporting those in our home here, and again with this attitude
and commitment, nothing is not possible and we're trying to accomplish some great things.
Some examples, Gleaners, somebody may have spoken to you about it earlier. We literally
were told by that charity that we're bringing too many people, we're overwhelming them so
we have to scale back. Another area we try to contribute to is going out and working
with some of the local elementary schools. We've had functions with as early as second
grade up through sixth grade and talked to the children about what possible roles there
may be for them out there in not only our company, but in manufacturing. Manufacturing's
not really a glamorous business, and we need future engineers, technicians and operators
throughout our whole company for us to sustain. We're trying to promote it and make young
people understand that it is a good career path.
Our team is a group; we do a lot for the community. Our services we offer, we do a lot of things
for our employees as well. You know, "lunch and learns" through our wellness program that
we have, and we try to give back to the community donating our time, our events and we also
donated our 2011 Trans-Am to the Warren Cousino high school when they had the homecoming parade.
They needed a car and they called so we offered our Trans-Am convertible for their parade.
Especially when you see those kids so happy riding on the back of the car, that's priceless
there. Being part of Sterling Heights, living here, we want to give back. We all spend a
lot of time and you never realize the little that you do to give back makes people happy
and also helps out the Sterling Heights community as well.
Receiving the Blue Ribbon Company of the Year award was very special to both Experi-Metal
and to me personally. I really want to thank the city of Sterling Heights and the Sterling
Heights Chamber of Commerce for bestowing this honor upon us. We take great pride in
giving back to the community in which we operate.
