she may be a popular vocalist in New York City with her bien
st. Charles quartet but their lives the Charles doesn't forget her hometown of
Springfield Massachusetts coming back here to perform
of DAT recently she played at the Community Music School in Springfield
and while in town we were able to grab a few minutes after time and she joins me
now in the studio
thank you so much Sarah here so what's up about being from Springville it's a
pretty big deal you know
I know you walk around with a sign in your city thing I am from Springfield
Massachusetts but talk about you
being from the area in the doors that open up to you
I'm being from the Springfield area yeah I'm very proud and I would walk around
with a sign of people will look at me funny in New York City
I'll but I grew up really and I
a group and hungry hell Springfield and I came up through the Community Music
School Springfield
I describe that as my birthplace as a musician for sure and opportunities that
it
that it opened up for certain unless I wouldn't have moved to New York City
if I hadn't have been turned on to the new school
for I The New School University a by air Backrack
he he expose me to us to the school and then I subsequently
apply to school got in which New York six years ago and the rest is sort of
history but
the music in this area is is really and less and it's a really special thing so
it's really important to me to be able to come back
n and performance share that with my community and you're ready
it's not even like you're starting on your first record your on your second
one
so tight its new record coming out called it's called inner dialogue
and st. Charles quite at my band will be releasing it
this this coming year most likely in the fall we're gonna be recording it next
next month and our fundraiser that we had recently at the Community Music
School as Robin newhouse Hall
what at was a little bit was twofold so the proceeds are going to benefit in
fungi this new record inner dialogue to be released on treat revolution records
and a portion of the proceeds are also be donated to an organization called
rise to shine it's a daycare center in fine trees ER Haiti
and I've been working with them to develop in early childhood music
education program cell
and you know how important music is church I'll helps education & learning
why is this organization so near and dear to your heart and my father's
family is originally from Port au Prince Haiti
so I've been wanting to go to Haiti since I was a young young girl
and and I finally got the opportunity in September last year ago
for the opening of their new school in time PCR and
I trains them the teachers Inc in your music but a sort of an adapted a
culturally adapted version of the kingdoms a curriculum
for that community and because they were already doing music with the with the
kids but I just worked on different exercises Inc sorry expanded
their repertoire exercises that they can do with the kids and I'm excited to be
going back
in January as well at the end of January thats Grange
and so this is really it seems like this is really become a cause it's more than
just one supporting this
charity organization its almost as if you're
joining the front lines within your your being apart right and now you're getting
intimately involved with that
yeah the great thing about the organization is they have they just want
everyone
to be involved too wants to be involved so you have something to offer
they really ok I welcome you with open arms and it's been really really great
for me to be able to Phils
avoid that they've been trying to fill for a little while they've got about
developing a musical curriculum
and all this happened by chance I'm at a board member and
in the summer of last year and then from there
within a month it happen had made to get booked and I was ready to go
so it's really really great to be a part of an organization sorta from the ground
up there are only about three years old so
it's really amazing let's talk about your new record coming out inner
dialogue how is it the same how the different than from your first record
how gosh okay it's right I I'm seeing it as a continuation of that record
and read was our first add recording it with me P
and it was sorta more the snapshot up where the bay and
was at that point in time we have been developing a music for about two and a
half years prior to read being recorded in coming out
and we we really just wanted to document that growth
and we wanted to document the experimentation that we had started to
do within the group
I would say red definitely was reflective where we were at that point
on but it's interesting because it has so many different facets and colors
inner dialogue is a little bit more conceptual in this sense
that its it's really and something that we're gonna be able to record at a point
in time where we've sorted
rounded out that sound a bit more
n really honed in on it a bit more so
reba again our sound is very eclectic and diverse as well so
we're going to be going touching on things from that training base conspired
groove to the ethereal ballet and using
post-production and much more press protection early
probably ever have in the past so it's really gonna be interesting in this out
it's hard to pinpoint
people ask me what's what's your number what's your sound in only thing I really
can say is that it's that the trial court erred us
and it's very unique and I'm very excited to share
and you have some very die-hard fans in the spring a very active tell you that's
why isn't he was in your view and they're so happy to hear from you and
I'm sure they're happy
hear about their future that you that sounds will take on talk to her music
has
impacted you on a personal level allow and
it's hard to say I think that me for me music
was just is just what I need to be doing on it
I always I we said to myself that we owe me
at we only have one from what we know we only have one chance to sort of go
through
this life so if you're going to get to do anything
do what you love and do what you're passionate and
if to me it's like I would have felt lost inserted guilty having %uh followed
that when I was younger I sorta I wanted to be a lawyer I thought about being a
lawyer
and when I started applying to colleges I applied for dinner early decision in
my mother said to me
Sarah when he doing you you know you wanna do music just do it you can always
go to law school you can always do this you cannot you can have a million lives
within your wildlife but
do what you love and try it out and see what happens and
and I've been really blast and to have met the people that I've met and to be
playing music with the people that are likely play music with
that's great Sarah Elizabeth Charlton St Charles protect thank you so much thank
you for having
