Hi, everyone!
I'm about to have dinner and decided to record one of those "going out" videos.
It's a bit dark outside already, so today's video might... This is funny.
I ended up tying my hair to record and it looks weird.
I have my light source already at minimum power,
but due to contrast with the environment light it might look. Well, we'll see.
When I— and I said this plenty of times here before, still...
When I have days like today, in which I went out during the morning,
so I already had makeup on, did what I had to do, came back h—
because, I work from home when I'm in London,
so there are the nights I go out, I spend the daytime with no makeup at all and I need to start from scratch.
At days when I was already wearing makeup, I'm going out at night and I need to put new makeup on,
I prefer to start over the previous one and do some retouching instead of starting from ground zero.
It is a personal preference, a bit controversial. I mean, I think it is more a matter of taste.
Still, I think it is only worth to clean your skin off if you have oily skin and on very hot days,
but not wiping out the mascara, especially if you have too much of it.
In any case, agree to disagree.
This morning I had— I've been testing lately the new foundation from Nars, the "Velvet Matte Skin Tint".
It is a matte version of that colored moisturizer from Nars,
the Radiant I-don't-know-what which I like a lot. It is a fresh release.
It should be in Brazil soon.
I believe it will be very popular as it feels very light with that velvet-like texture.
It reminds me of the "Face Fabrics" texture, from Armani,
but the coverage is optimal for daily usage.
Been a big fan so far.
I had it on this morning and then went with concealer, highlighter,
a bit of blush and finished with eyelining and mascara.
I'll start retouching the skin.
For the eyes I'll use this palette from MAC, "Amber x 9".
I want this shades of brown, but very dark at the contouring.
Sort of a blend with black contouring.
For finishers, I'll use the "Steven Klein" eyeshadow from Nars.
Not sure if you remember, it is one of the eyeshadows I used on my makeup idea for the New Years' party.
The Steven Klein collection is about to arrive in Brazil.
It is likely to be released by the time this video is up. I believe they land there while I'm recording.
It has been very long since I last used it, so I wanted to remember it.
It was released here by Christmas.
We know that, sometimes, Brazil doesn't help with the delays, but it will arrive there.
It is well worth it.
I'll have false lashes on. It has been too long since I last used any.
That's also the reason why I want the black around here and not so broad.
I prefer it that way with false lashes on, they stand out more and look more exciting.
The lashes I'll be using will be from Kiss New York, the ones I showed on a previous video.
They shipped me, straight from Brazil, a billion false lashes options! So amazing.
I still haven't decided between these two, from the many other options.
I love this one, will probably be using it.
It feels like individual lashes, only a bit wider.
You put on two on the corners and get this amazing effect. I also feel it is easier to glue on.
This one is full width, but very natural. I believe it would look good.
'Cause I'm out for din—
I didn't yet tell you where I'm going! I'm having din—
ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
It is a birthday-dinner for my friend Alex, from Glamour UK.
Anyway, I want to do something that stands out but not that much.
I had many glue options too,
but I'll use this one that comes with a brush. It provides better accuracy when glueing at the base of the lashes.
What got most of my attention on Kiss, also what got me most excited and curious about the set they sent me,
is that they run many blind tests with the Duo glue, which is the most famous lashes glue around.
And theirs score better at the durability test.
So, I want to try it. This might be a useful tip to you too.
Nevertheless, I'll start with retouching the skin.
So let's get to it, first thing is concealing the black circles again.
Instead of more concealer, I'll use the...
...concealing and highlighting "Prep + Prime" pen.
I like to do the funny facial painting and spread it.
I mentioned this recently, about an express makeup for nighttime parties and the like.
I know I'm going out to dinner and the restaurant lightwork is not "whoa!",
so it doesn't concern me that much to go through that ultra-detailed concealing.
I believe it is much more important to do that for daytime events,
because people actually see your skin. Not that necessary for occasions such as this one tonight.
OK, maybe one tiny bit of concealer.
I'm using "Alta Cobertura" ("High Coverage") from "Quem disse, Berenice?".
Used it for a different video, but I'm on this moment with it.
I've said a few times that I have moments with certain products.
Today will be one of those times which, since it is already dark but you're seeing me under light,
I'll see myself at the video later and say "dagnabbit, I didn't spread it well enough."
My mirror sits a bit far from here. When I'm not recording, I put on makeup like...
Concealing: done. I can't get away from the Hourglass powder, the mighty "Ambient" powder.
I'll spread it all around my face.
Now a little "Mineralize Skinfinish" around here...
Barely nothing, actually, the kind of thing you'll look and ask "why did she do that at all?"
I'll use "Sunbasque" from MAC for blush. I think it is a very versatile blush hue.
Usually, when I'm working on a nighttime makeup,
I end up using it although I don't think it fits only nighttime.
A bit on the eyes too.
And now I'll go for two highlighter layers for a "bam!" effect.
"Watts Up" from Benefit will be my creamy choice for tonight.
I almost said "WhatsApp" instead, the app that rules our lives.
And "Mary-Lou Manizer" from The Balm over it.
This will look amazing. I like to do this highlighters sammich.
The first one is on, now I'm spreading with the Arits brush of which I'll record a review soon enough
with further information and details.
It draws a lot of attention on the videos because it really is quite
different of what we're used to see around there regarding brushes.
This looks very nice already.
Now Mary-Lou over it, because we're all here to shine in life, right?
Even if it is only highlighter, it is good enough
Highlighter: done.
So now we have the skin ready.
The other day, when I briefly showed up the brushes,
someone asked me how I organize them. I always do it with little cups.
This, over here, is an eye gel, "Puff Off" from Benefit.
I leave it here because, when my eyes feel dry, it is there to be used.
These cups are actually all-spent candles.
I wash them and keep them. This one is a regular cup, not a candle one. So cute.
Anyway, cups are generally good for organizing brushes.
I sorted them such as, the fat and fluffy are here
and the pointy and stiff ones are here. This is a good sorting.
I'm not in the mood for thinking too hard tonight, so I'll go on with the usual.
Well, I'm going to use all of the eyeshadows from this formidable palette,
starting with the matte ones from at the ends for an overall eyelid coverage.
And, since I already have eyeliner on, I won't wipe it off.
I'm sort of using it on my behalf,
but I don't want this makeup to look like I had a defined eyelining.
I'll have some pencil around here later for an extra "oomph."
Now I'll put these two on. I'm sort of mixing them together.
You get a chunk of each (a bit of this one, a bit of this one), and tap along.
I like the eyeshadow palettes because they always allow this sort of blend.
And when you ask yourself "which shadow will look good?", you use them all.
Mix them up, that always works.
Oh I love this one, "Don't Tell". Will use it in the middle.
You'll notice I'm putting it on not very accurately.
And now, with this little brush,
I'll put on the shimmery light one and highlight the inner corner.
This is sort of a sketch of the eye.
Let me see now, which one didn't I use? This golden one, but then I'll use that one...
Now I want to darken it up a bit, so I'll get the brown one from the middle, called "Aromatic",
all with the same brush, but now paying more attention because it is a bit darker
and I will fill the lid, but aiming at the crease and the outer corner.
This is the greatest thing about brown eyeshadows:
you can work your eyes up with practically no mirror usage because it is all neutral.
Making a mistake is not as dramatic.
I'll end up putting more stuff there, at my "eye sketch".
I'm aiming the darker shadow at the crease
and pulling it in, but not touching the inner corner.
I want it to be highlighted.
Now, with the fat brush I had no product on and was using only for blending,
I'll get this intermediary one.
I think you can see which ones I'm picking up,
but more important than seeing my choice of colors
is understand the concept of which is lighter, which is darker and which sits between.
You can work this makeup with different palettes, not just this one.
I'm putting on the intermediary for a wider and more diffuse crease.
Now I'll use the darker one from the palette, at the corner, but because it shimmers.
For a bit of "bam" at the...
You know the "V" at the inner corner? Going to darken it a little...
...and some blending with the brush too.
You can always pull it up a bit if you want.
The eyeliner tip is almost gone now.
If didn't have it in the first place, I would have started the eye with a line of black pencil
immediately blending it with the brown eyeshadow. But it was here already, so...
Now, speaking of the devil, the black pencil.
I'm using "24/7" from Urban Decay, but no need to say that any black pencil will do.
I'll nudge the waterline, already thinking in...
...blurring it on purpose.
Now, with the little brush,
you can choose which brown shadow you want. It can be the intermediary one,
the dark matte brown one, the darkest...
I'll have the dark matte one for tonight. If anything comes up, I'll pick a different one.
And here I want to...
Now I'll get the one in the corner that was—
not the light ones, but an intermediary with a bit of shimmering
to make this spot close to the lower lashes stand out better.
I think this looks good.
With the same black pencil now, I'll make the contouring more intense.
This looks good already and I can't forget I'll have false lashes on later, so it's better to leave it like this.
This already feels like the intensity I wanted.
This makes a lot of difference, not as a good or bad thing,
but something to take into consideration: if you're intensifying the lower lid or not.
This looks more lady-like and this looks more party-like.
Something worth of note upon working this eye with darker contouring
is to pay attention if you're not leaving
blank spots on the lashes and down here.
Now the shimmery brown one...
Just to strengthen up the lashes' base.
I hope it doesn't look more intense than the other eye.
That's fine, though. I'm having dinner out with my friends. Nobody is going to check on my makeup with a microscope.
Nobody will be like "this eye looks darker than the other."
Of course they have to be baseline similar, but you have a last check before going out and all is good.
Now, ta-da! A glittery touch.
This is a powder eyeshadow, but I'll tap it with my fingers anyway.
I think the color mixes very well.
I was going to say "I THINK this color will fit just fine,"
but started tapping it up and it did fit well.
A bit of glitter always works.
Now, lashes.
I already had a light mascara coat.
Just a bit more, I'm using "Grandiôse" right now.
I prefer to have something already working on my lashes when I'm about to glue the false ones,
such as mascara, curled lashes and the like.
Inasmuch as, most of the time, I choose this focused enhancement over the whole lash.
I also sometimes do, to get a more natural feeling on them,
get one of these and cut a smaller part off to use.
I can also cut them both in half
(it needs to be the same halfs, I use two at a time).
It is very important to measure them prior to putting up glue.
That is also a reason why I prefer to put these on, it is a faster process.
Measuring is worth the while. The false lashes are sometimes larger than your eye.
You cut them off so they fit perfectly.
Oh, this is so nice! I've never seen this before... Or was it I never paid enough attention?
I was reading the instructions— it is amazing how much you can miss if you don't read the instructions.
It has this glue-holder. I usually use the back of my hand for that.
Since I'll be using this glue that comes with a brush, I won't need the glue-holder.
A crucial piece of equipment when putting on false lashes: pliers.
You have more room to aim and support it with the pliers.
It might get too close if you do it with your fingers.
I also like to look at... Oh this will look so good!
Glue...
Another secret— OK, it's not a secret. In fact, it something we've been repeating for a while.
I always mention it when on the false lashes subject. My book has it even.
One tip: don't rush the lashes. Just don't rush them. Take your time.
When the glue is too liquid, the lashes will skid to the side.
If you wait until the glue is a bit denser, you press on the lashes and it stays in place.
You support it on the lashes's base and move on to the next.
The glue will dry and you'll have to—
It is optimal that you don't put on too much glue.
If you do, the node will look large and they will notice you have false lashes on.
They still show up even after dry if you put on too much.
Ideally, it will dry out and become transparent, so no need to cover it up.
Here's on next to the other.
OK, I know: I'll have a short one and I think this will look good.
This leaves the longer ones at the edges.
I think I can fit one more. No rush. Meditate.
Think of your outfit.
Place it. That's how it goes: you place it on.
The glue will dry out over time, and I always put on a bit of pressure by the end of it.
We have, qmong the secrets for successfully putting on false lashes:
wait for the glue to dry out a little and get your aim right.
Another secret for putting on false lashes: practice.
I'm lazy and I don't put those on often, despit being something I enjoy doing.
If you love doing it, though, you have to practice for
habit and technique, until you're able to do it in a matter of minutes.
OK, now the other eye. I'm back to the larger lashes.
This is the confuse side, and I'm out of light too.
You can also leave some room between them, it looks good.
In the end of the day, it feels more natural.
Now the shorter ones...
Oops, accident! We can't get the aim right all the time.
Pull it off, take a deep breath and start again. No need to freak out.
You need to check that, like here where there's a bit of glue... It will dry though, so we're good.
There. The ugly face is part of the process.
I also like to pinch the false lashes to the real ones very lightly.
The glue is still drying out. I'll leave it like this and check if I need eyeliner later on.
Now, lipstick. I'm talking the bark off a tree in this video,
it's just I had too much info and interesting products to show you.
I'll use this nude one from Lipstick Queen,
which is "Saint & Sinner Liptint Pink Nude."
It's the same lipstick I used on the Space NK campaign.
It is a liquid stain-like lipstick, but the color is not as intense. Less dense, so to speak.
We gave these as freebies to the attendees at the Space NK events in New York.
Many friends came to me later saying that they liked it much.
Cami grew fond of it, she even posted on Snapchat later, saying she couldn't stop using it.
Sophie, my Belgian friend also loved it.
So here's a tip for a cute nude lipstick.
It feels like gloss when you're putting on, a bit thinner actually.
It dries out, but not too matte either. It has less pigment.
I think this explains it. Also, it looks cute.
I also find it interesting, that's why I wanted to talk about it.
I get positive feedback about certain products and I like to share it with you.
Farfetch is selling Space NK and they ship it to Brazil. Isn't this awesome? A whole range of products.
I published it on my blog already, including a few favorite ones,
(this one is there), but I thought it was worth to gave them on video.
You can also buy Hourglass, which seems to be in fact leaving Brazil,
but if you can buy it online, there you go. No worries.
That's it, everyone! I think the lashes are done too. Now I'll finish the rest of my look. It looks good, doesn't it?
I'll put on some clothes and, if needed, a final retouching,
but I don't think I'll need eyeliner to cover the glue. It will look good when it gets dry.
I hope you liked this video, even though it was longer than usual.
Maybe it's good to alternate: longer one, shorter one...
See you next time!
