Hey, it’s Mel. So, I just wanted to do a real short video
to let you know about a new course that I’m adding to my “recommended” list.
I’ve decided to affiliate it as one of the courses on my site.
So, just click the link below if you want to find out a little more about it.
Here are some of the topics you’ll find inside. One of them is Video Optimization
and you’ll see some of the other modules, about strategy,
and creating videos and so forth. But one of the things also
is how this has reminded me of some of the videos that I’ve
put up on my YouTube site. And, quite frankly, many of them
I have pretty much forgotten about after I initially posted them.
And as a result of this course, I’ve revisited some of them and
this one in particular about How to Make YouTube Annotations, I posted it a couple of years ago
and just haven’t really thought much more about it.
But, as it turns out it has actually generated over four thousand views.
So, what I started doing is look at that a little more and thought
it’s great that
filled in the URLs and descriptive information in the video.
The first line has the URL to my site, and keywords in the description.
And it also helps to make sure that you’ve taken time to populate the description section.
And put keywords into it, and so on. There’s probably more I could have
done… actually, there’s definitely more I could have done there. I could have put more
tags in there, for one. But, I want to show you something...
As I was looking at my statistics on YouTube
one of the things I noticed is that… and you’ll learn this in the Video Traffic Academy course… is
in addition to knowing how to find the statistics in YouTube is to also
being able to interpret them a little more. In this case, for example, the shape of the slope actually gives you more information...
It’s not just pretty, but what it actually also shows you is that...
it gives you some additional information about the velocity of the growth of your video’s views.
So, in this particular case, I’m happy that it has continued to grow
as opposed to, say, if I just took a random video
from YouTube here, you can see this one
just kind of spikes in the first week, and then plateaus off
and hasn’t really gotten much more growth. So, there are different ways to interpret these
and you’ll learn some of that kind of analysis in the Video Traffic Academy course, as well.
But, some of the other things to pay attention to is...
as I look at some of these keywords that people are using to get to my video, a lot is coming from YouTube searches
which is great.
Then you click on “More Statistics,”
… and so you click on that and notice that YouTube now has updated their site and they now
give you a little more visual graphics in terms of where
your traffic is coming from. Now, I’m not going to go through
all the tabs here. You’ll learn how to analyze YouTube video keywords in the course, and certainly we’ll talk more about
some of these on ScreencastingWizard.com (this blog) as well, but
one of the things I noticed as I was going through the YouTube statistics is that my
research path was to look at Top Traffic Sources
and I noticed that for this particular video, more than half came from referrals from YouTube sources.
Many also from offsite, like Google, and so on.
So, I was interested in what some of those inbound keywords might have been from YouTube, so I clicked on
on there (“How to create a YouTube Video Annotation With a Link”) and indeed you get some additional statistical graphs
and you can see that the top two results came from
YouTube search and Google search. So I clicked on YouTube search
and you’ll see that some of the keywords that some people were using to find this video.
So I clicked on the top one, “how to make annotation links,” what I wanted to do (was find what that revealed)
and indeed, my video shows at the top of the search results
for those keywords within YouTube. It’s the second largest search engine in the world,
not too bad, right? But,
what I wanted to do is learn from some of the other techniques that others
were using to get traffic to their video. I looked at this guy’s YouTube video here, he’s got a great video
by the way, I recommend you take a look at it. I’ll put the link down below.
But, from reelseo, I think this guy’s doing it right, I have to say.
I mean, I’ll give myself some credit.
I’ve done the work to put keywords, tags and description information in my video, but
check out how
this guy did it.
One of the things that caught my attention is that he already has 787
views down here. But he only uploaded his YouTube video like three weeks ago.
So, I took a look at that. And, let me just go ahead and pause his YouTube video here
But, this is actually, um, (yeah, we have to go through all these YouTube advertisements now)
but, uh, let’s come down here and
I took a look at his statistics.
And, what you see is the curve. And when you initially look at the curve, it looks like it plateaus.
But, not so fast!
Look at the time frame here. This starts at January 9,
and today is the 31st of January.
And so, over the span of like three weeks, this has actually gone from like zero...
up to about 800 views already. And it’s continuing to grow. I think
this is great. And you can see some of the keywords
folks are using to find his video.
So, I was interested in what he was doing. In terms of
his tags, and so forth. So if we look in the description area of his YouTube video
notice what he has done here. And I think this is great.
This guy’s doing it right. He has
the metadata in the description area. And he has the
keywords populated in there. He also has included some additional links
to some of his other YouTube videos. And so he has linked back
to the other videos he has on YouTube.
So these are his.
ReelSEOeMail, ReelSEOVideos
so he’s kind of linking back to himself. But, look what he has done down here.
Notice the tags… these aren’t the YouTube tags
these are Tags he has added in the Description area. (He has added these in addition to the tags YouTube allows for you in the tags section.)
He has actually put tags right inside
of the description area of his YouTube video. Which I think is absolutely
fantastic. So, anyway, I just wanted to (point out these brilliant techniques to you)
If you’re not doing these with your YouTube videos and with your screencasts as you upload them
then these are some of the things that you and I need to start paying more attention to.
And we need to start doing more of that. And you’ll learn a lot of those (YouTube traffic tactics and strategies) in the (Video Traffic Academy) course, as well.
So, take a look at it. I hope this helps and that it has gotten you thinking a little more about
(YouTube tactics and strategies.) Take care.
