Hi. My name is Kaytie Scully and I am a senior at Sumner High School. I have been a part
of Pathways for three years. Pathways is a standards-based program that allows students
to learn in different ways. Pathways allows students to try new things, and it brings
us out of our comfort zones. Every student in Pathways makes a personal learning plan
and has learned to set short-term goals so that we can meet our long-term goals. Some
ways we choose to learn are online classes, job shadows, adult education classes, independent
study, and there are many more. Pathways gives students the opportunity to do things that
they do not normally have a chance to do. For example, I am taking a Certified Nursing
Assistant class through Sumner Adult Education. I am taking this class as a stepping stone
to reach my long-term goal. My long-term goal is to become a pediatric oncologist. Pathways
gives students courage and self-confidence to follow their dreams, and it shows that
there is nothing impossible when it comes to learning.
