I tend to use those maps in my work.
A family consists of human beings,
each has their own life, joined in one family.
I see those humans as dots,
which make up a line when combined.
In a map, we see a legend,
the line represents journey.
The map facilitates my artwork,
to represent that life is a journey.
On this BNE exhibition,
still about family.
I made an installation of a dining table
on which there are 4 plates with food
the food are food models.
This work represents my family of 4,
Father, mother, older sibling, and myself.
The work talks about living people and dead people.
The food in 3 plates are still looking like food,
meaning that there is still a journey ahead.
And the remaining is food scraps, showing a journey ended.
There is no chair, except for the plate with food scraps.
It is of the living being dead and the dead lives on.
Myself included, all human beings are created in God's image.
God create and therefore to reflect His image,
therefore, I too, create things, as an artist.
So you think yourself as an artist?
People label me that way
so I live up to it.
Why do I want to be an artist?
I want to reflect on the image of my God.
Making things, creating things.
No need to be pretentious,
many artist make artworks to be bought by collectors.
But there are some artists who only stick to their ideal principles.
To fulfill the demand on the art market,
artists make and sell their artworks. It is very normal.
As for myself, I have nothing to lose.
When I just graduated, I wished I could earn money from my artworks.
Eventually, I earn my living from other things,
so I make art for the sake of making art.
I see that nowadays, if an artist participates in more exhibitions,
then he is a good artist.
But ideally, I really think that a good artist should make good artwork,
good artwork that affects the society and surroundings.
What is your opinion about the art market?
I think it's fine.
It really is not a bad thing.
Who doesn't need money, anyway? Everyone needs money.
I plan to study architecture
to gain deeper knowledge on the concept of mapping, landscape.
