Today we'll be talking about run on sentences
more specifically will be discovering what a run on sentence
We'll look at examples of run on sentences.
We will practice correcting run on sentences.
Being able to identify and correct run on sentences
will improve your writing.
What is a run on sentence you may ask? A run on sentence has two thoughts that are not
properly connected
mean their two parts that and smooshed together
instead of properly connected or you can be
two sentences that no punctuation to separate them.
We will look at examples of run on sentences.
An examples of run on sentence would be
the couch is comfortable, the chair too.
Second example
that girl is running fast, she's not slowing down!
Today we will look at two ways to correct a run on sentence.
The first way would be to separate the independent clauses
in two distinct sentences.
The second way will be to compound the independent clauses
with the conjunction or semicolon.
Conjunction examples would be and, but,
or, yet, for, nor
and so after briefly
reviewing what a run on sentence is and how to correct it now
it's your turn to practice so the first
run on sentence we had that we will be creating
reads this is not such an elegant playground,
still the kids love it. How would we correct this sentence?
If you said we separate the sentences
you were correct. You make
two independent sentences that read
This is not such and elegant playground. Still, the kids love it.
We add a period after playground
and capitalize still.
The second example reads I went to Disney Land during summer
it was so much fun. How do we correct this sentence?
To correct this run on sentence , we add a comma
before the conjunction and the sentence
then reads I went to Disney Land during summer, and it was so much fun.
