I think living in Konkow is great. There is a small amount of people so
it gives that great family feeling.
Plus, you have your own kitchen, your own living room and your own dining room; which gives you
a lot more options as a college student. Having a living room and
dining room creates a lot of bonding experiences with the people that you
live with, and you normally wouldn’t get that
on a regular residence hall floor because there aren’t those areas to create
those moments. Courtney is a resident of Chico State’s Konkow Houses, a group
of buildings centered on house-style living.
The Konkow House community is comprised of six house-style units, each home to about
14 students.
It’s home for many of our students involved in the Themed Living
Programs. These programs compliment the learning experiences of Konkow House
residents, integrating closely courses of study and the manner in which they live.
Current themes include Project Math & Science,
Sustainability and the University Honors Program. As part of the unique
experience living in Konkow,
residents will enjoy lectures, music and cultural events centering on the Themed
Programs.
It’s an interesting way to connect your academic studies and the world outside the
classroom.
The most typical Konkow student room configuration provides 2 students
per room
however, each house has one single room for general student assignments.
Every house includes ample common areas for residents,
including a living room, dining room and house kitchen.
Participation in a minimum Student Dining Plan is required for Konkow
residents. For more of what you need to know about the Sutter Hall Dining Center, take
a look at your Living In Handbook or the Dining Program and Dining Hall videos
on our website.
These discuss the unique aspects of the residence dining programs.
Named for one of the indigenous people of the Butte County area,
the Konkow Houses offer a very special experience for students who stay here
with us. Each Konkow House has 1 RA staff member,
and the north campus community
has 2 full-time professional residence hall managers.
Hall staff assists students with the transition to college life, as well as aide in
educational, social, recreational and cultural programming activities.
Like all
other Chico State residence halls, Konkow Houses features fully furnished rooms,
as well as high-speed wireless internet,
cable television, air conditioning, and option to subscribe to telephone services
with voicemail. There’s also access to a computer lab,
study lounge, a recreation room as well as on-site laundry services.
Around the Konkow houses are a lot of the student services and athletic
features of Chico State.
Beside the houses are the soccer and lacrosse fields,
and a few steps away is the Student Health Center and Acker Gym.
A short walk beyond that is the campus core, providing easy access to
all the instructional buildings of campus,
University Library, Bell Memorial Union, and the new Wildcat Recreation Center.
A few more steps more, and you'll find the fun, interest and adventure of downtown
Chico.
Beyond the planning we've put into the layout, living experience and features of
Konkow,
we take seriously our commitment to student safety.
That’s why the north campus community has 2 professional staff
and each Konkow house has its own Resident Advisor.
Each resident is provided with a unique room key for access to their house’s
front door and their room.
It’s resistant to copying or tampering.
Added to this is the fact the entire residence hall area of campus
is patrolled regularly by University Police.
Finally, with Residential Life Staff so close by,
getting help is easy. If you've got a problem, chances are they can help.
In Konkow we have themes that we live with, for example, I live
with the Project Math students, we are all math students
so, we all have class together. We also have different themes so you could
live with people that are also
studying the same thing as you, which is very helpful.
Honestly, it’s so much fun you should definitely do it.
I would definitely say you should take that jump and come to Chico State, no matter where you are
coming from. Even if you live in Chico, if you are all the way from another state,
or from Southern California;
take the leap and come up here, you are going to love it. There are so many opportunities.
