There's been some buzz recently about The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, assuming the coveted
role of Luke Cage in one of Marvel's upcoming film projects.
In a recent interview with Collider, Marvel boss Kevin Feige was asked whether or not
he'd considered casting Johnson in the Marvel universe, to which he replied, "I think yeah,
I mean his name has come up in the past. I'm a gigantic fan of his... I think he's an unbelievable
personality and an unbelievable sort of force of nature. He's awesome in Pain & Gain, he
was great in G.I. Joe, he's really kind of an amazing human being. His Twitter's always
cool and he promotes the hell out of everything he does. I would love him to be part of the
Marvel universe somewhere, someday."
Dwayne Johnson, who apparently does have quite a twitter presence, tweeted a reply.
"Thank U @Marvel President Kevin Feige for the nod. I'll be ready." followed by #RockAsCage
and #HeroForHire.
He also included this picture of Luke Cage side by side with a photo of himself in all
his WWF Rockness.
As far as the current status of Luke Cage in Marvel's cinematic universe: Marvel and
ABC recently revealed the details and trailer for their new show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,
to air on ABC this fall. It was highly speculated that J. August Richard's mysterious hooded
character was a young Luke Cage. However, in an interview with IGN, Executive Producer
Jeffrey Bell debunked rumors stating that the character is NOT Luke Cage.
So, as it stands, the role is apparently open to possibilities, as are both Kevin Feige
and Dwayne "can we still call him the rock" Johnson. ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts
airing Tuesdays at 8 PM this fall on ABC. For all your Marvel Cinematic News, keep it
