...you know like I said I've been dealing with this
since I was born and so a combination of
you know this being basically my life, along with
parents that instilled me with a positive attitude in always to encourage me
to be aware and educated about my own
health and in doing so I'm a
firm believer that in education you empower yourself
to stay away from the fear and to stay positive about the things that you can
control and the things that you can do for yourself
to have the most quality of life possible. That translated
dramatically into
when my second transplant was failing
in 2004 I made a decision of
not only for myself but for my family.
To stay strong and to continue to run no matter what.
Meaning my physical activity of running
and I decided that at that time that I was gonna do everything possible to
continue on with my running even though I knew I was facing dialysis.
To my great surprise when I did go on dialysis
I was actually feeling much better than I had in years
previous and I started running on a regular basis again
to the amazement and shock of my doctors and
nursing staff. I decided at that time that I would run the Chicago
Marathon.
Which I had done before while I had my transplanted kidney
and that it turned out to my surprise that I was the only patient to
ever run a marathon while on dialysis.
