So we're here in the floor maltings to meet another one of the members of staff that help
make your favourite brand. Are you from Islay and where do you stay? Yes, I'm from Islay
and I stay in Port Ellen. Have you been on Islay all your life? Yes, I've been on Islay
for all of 53 years. 53 years young! So what do you do here at Laphroaig and how long have
you been here? Working the floor maltings with a team of four operators, and I've been
here now for coming up to seven years. Do you have any other members of your family
in the past that have worked at Laphroaig? Yes, I've had an uncle who worked in the warehouse
side of things. He worked for quite a considerable time on the warehouse side. And what's your
favourite Laphroaig? My favourite Laphroaig is probably the 10 Year Old Laphroaig. Good
choice. So about yourself, do you have family and kids, and what do they do on the island?
I have three daughters and a grandson. Daughters work in the pharmacy in Bowmore, and the island
shop in Bowmore and one's a dental nurse as well. Good person to know if you've got a
sore tooth! We want to know a bit more about you, the people behind the brand if you like
so an easy one, what's your favourite meal? My favourite meal, I would have to say...would
be fish and chips because my wife has a fish and chip van business so I'd have to say fish
and chips. Keeping the family business good. What's your favourite holiday destination
then? My favourite holiday destination would be Majorca. Do you have a favourite movie
or book? Favourite movie would have to be a comedy and it would have to be Mrs Doubtfire.
If you were stuck on a desert island what one luxury would you need to take with you?
Oh... my golf clubs. Golf clubs? Yes. Keep working the swing? Keep working the swing,
yes. Last question I'm going to ask you here, if you could sit next to anybody on a plane
journey, who would it be? I would say it would have to be Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods, just
to golf again? Just golf again. We're really lucky here on Islay, we have one of the top
50 or 60 golf courses in the world and we can just walk on to it any time at all. It's
right next to where we cut the peats in fact, the machrie golf course it's called. Arthur
and I are both golfers so we're really lucky.
