Fertility process - Two weeks of waiting. One of the toughest days that I went
through I think was while I was waiting for a pregnancy test to come back
because all through the fertility process you're giving yourself the shots, you're going in
for appointments, you have daily checkups you just feel like you're progressing and you're
progressing when you go through the final procedure
then you have two weeks where you have to basically wait to see if it worked or
not.
So I think those days were the most grueling because you're just waiting. Waiting for the pregnancy test results.
So you try to do something to be busy and you go about your day
but you can't help but think about it in the back of your mind
That was the toughest for me. I think the hardest time of the
treatment cycle for any patient
is the two weeks in between either their
insemination for their embryo transfer,
when they're waiting to come back in for their pregnancy test and lots of
fertility patients actually referred to that period as to '2ww' (meaning) two weeks
waiting, and it's really a vulnerable time for them because
in some respects we cut them loose. They're not coming in for monitoring
every other day and they're not talking to their nurse every other day ...
like they were at the beginning of the treatment cycle, before the in vitro fertilization..
I think it's really important for patients to remember that we do have
counselors here at Reproductive Science Center who are available to them and in
that two-week waiting period ( after in vitro fertilization )
that may be a time when they want to make an appointment just to talk to
somebody about how they're feeling about things that they can do to kind of
control their anxiety and how they can deal with the anticipation
of waiting for that pregnancy test. Some of the tough times we went through
were
after waiting
for the two weeks or so to find the results and we found out it was unsuccessful.
A couple of days after
settling down and
taking in the results we said to ourselves, "okay let's try again."
What we wanted was a child so we had in us to keep trying
until there was success.
To someone that's staying the process just always stay positive even if you know it's
difficult.
The more In Vitro Fertilization processes you go through, the higher the chances of it working
so I want to say
it's not easy but stick with it because the end result is definitely worth it.
